Hopefully this jump starts a good season for Pulisic. Would really like to see him reach double digits in goals and assists this year.

Pulisic's goal was a total fluke, but, whatever, it counts.

I watched most of the Schalke game. It was funny, in watching the first half, I was wondering what it was that McKennie does well. He covers a lot of ground and has a tremendous work rate, but in the games I've watched he just kind of there.

In the second half, he was everywhere. Box to box, sideline to sideline. Winning headers, making tackles, good passes. The Spanish language commentators were really, really complimentary. And it was great on the goal when Hector Herrera and Jesus Corona both had screw ups that led to the counter-the commentators were all over it.

With Mckennie and Adams as dual 6s and a pure 10 (Green, Sonora, Saief) in front we have a chance against anybody, throw in a world class winger like Pulisic and serviceable winger on the other side (Amon, Fabian) we have an international quality midfield.

This is too easy for US Soccer to get right. Watch us play 5 defensive mids and 4 backs in the gold cup lol.

This... what a lot of people don't realize is that the position that McKennie plays is a very thankless position.

Similar to Bradley (and most recently Trapp), when you watch them play you don't normally see what they really do. Playing as a holding mid or as a box to box guy with defensive tendencies, you don't score a lot of goals, you don't get lots of assists, you don't get any glory and praise... you're just sort of out there on the field covering ground.

The role calls for occupying a certain area of the field, providing support, keeping possession, moving the ball, slowing down play, and acting as the middle man as the ball moves from the backs to the forwards/wingers. Its a very specific and important role that people rarely take note of because the players playing there usually aren't fast, have great foot skills, flashy, or as noted - score goals and get assists. Their presence on the field is one that supports others (defensive cover and the first person to pass to from the back, and a holding role to allow other midfielders to roam the field as they please).

One of the formations I've been wanting to see is a 4-2-3-1 with the following players:

-----------------Wood------------
--Saief----------Green--------Pulisic--
-------McKennie-------Adams---------
Robinson-----Brooks------Miazga-----Yedlin
---------------Steffen--------------

A combination of Saief, Green, Pulisic, & Weah in the attacking 3 of the midfield should be fun to watch. They've got speed, can hold possession, and should be able to see some success taking players 1 vs 1. Hopefully this would prevent opponents from keying in on Pulisic as our only attacker/creator. We've yet to have a camp where all 4 of these guys were present.
Wood is our best lone striker at the moment, but hopefully Sargent & Siebatcheu can push the issue sooner rather than later. Not sold on Novak....& don't like the MLS options.
Yedlin is still our best RB. But Moore & Cannon will hopefully push/challenge him in the next year or 2.

Bring Acosta off the bench if McKennie or Adams needs a breather.
Have Amon, Gooch/Gall as depth for the wide midfielders. Possibly Taitague & Tillman as some point down the road if they continue to progress.
Scott & Parks as potential depth for the CAM position.

Siebatcheu? Not sold on him to even accept an invite to a USMNT camp and has yet to really make his mark with Rennes.

Horvath starting at Monaco. Glad to see him back in form for Brugge. Been a long 12 months for him.

I don't know if it's just managing a young player's minutes, but McKinnie hasn't seen as many minutes of late.

He was subbed off after an hour, so he couldn't have play overly well. But overhyped because he had a rough match at Atletico Madrid? Seems a stretch.

Still very young for a keeper- this guy has everything but confidence and command and perhaps some more good performances will give him that confidence. I'm not sure Brugge is the club for him- but- Horvath has a lot going for him. I'd like to see him play in one of the friendlies to get some exposure to the scouts. Steffen had earned the opportunity and so has Guzan, but it's time to see Horvath play again. With his quick feet and long arms he has always looked the part.

As he came off the field, he punched the wall of the dugout.

Pulisic has been in very poor form for over a year now. I've been saying all along that the problem is that he is being played on the right, where all he can do is run down the line and send in crosses. He's not that type of player and it's a waste of his talent. In the modern game, you want your best winger to play on the side of his weak foot so that he can cut in to the middle and attack. Since Pulisic is lower on the pecking order, they've stuck him on the right and he has suffered for it.
