Ives is reporting, through a Portugesse outlet, that Benfica is negotiating with Durkin for a move. This is a positive move for MLS teams under the new rule of selling players. Allow kids who do not have a dual passport play in MLS, then the team reaps 100% of the reward to sell at 18. Hopefully, this will spark a wave of MLS playing U18 kids, so they can reap the financial rewards.

He can play. Benfica having two Americans would be sweet.

As a DC fan, I prefer this move for Durkin. Frustratingly, DC signed too many central midfielders this offseason and Durkin doesn't have a route to regular minutes. He's a heck of a talent and watching Durkin as a #6 with Parks as a #8 at Benfica B would be incredible.

Durkin has that ability to control the ball while keeping his eyes up on the field, teammates, and the opponents. Just a class touch of the ball for a guy in his position. Playing with the skill players of benfica will be a big boost for his confidence, which from my observations, may be Durkin's number one quality: that self confidence to push forward amongst talented players from all over the world. He impressed every bit as much as Sargent or weah did up front, it's just that the #6 role isn't glamorous like a goal scorer. Durkin = solidity, important in the future with the likes of McKennie, Adams, Parks and others roaming the field and pressing. Good luck to the kid.

Right now it looks like DCU knew he was going to be on the move and signed an extra CM to make up for his impending departure. I just hope he gets playing time this spring. He has shown very very well in preseason

If he does want a move DC would be wise to play him and build his value. I doubt Benfica is the only team on him.

The final stretch of the English league season is upon us, with several Americans on the verge of relegation with their teams.
