Well, is this finally the year an English team hoists the trophy? All 5 are going to progress from their respective groups, with 4 of the 5 topping the group. Not sure anyone would've predicted that at the beginning of the campaign.

As it stands right now, here's the breakdown for the knockout stage:

5 England
1 Switzerland
1 France
1 Germany
2 Italy
3 Spain
1 Ukraine
1 Turkey
1 Portugal

Well Italy was close to taking away their 4th CL slot so this sews it up for a few more years unless Juve or Roma win the CL and another Italian team wins Europe. But even then there is a strong Arsenal team in the Europa.

Will an English team win it? Doubt it. Their fixture list is too extensive and the FA is inflexible with regards to rescheduling matches. The last English team to win the trophy was Chelsea and they tanked their PL season to concentrate on winning it.

Hard to see anyone but Real, Barca, or Bayern winning it. Their league positions are pretty much guaranteed and can play at 80% in there domestic matches and win. If I were a betting man I would take a chance on Roma who are hot and cold but can handle anyone on their day.

Real Madrid just got real lucky. Didn't think that was a penalty and you can't send off Buffon unless he assaults the ref or a player.

The final stretch of the English league season is upon us, with several Americans on the verge of relegation with their teams.
