Tata Martino hired as the first manager of AUFC.

I think it's a good hire. A good coach for opening in March.

These type of moves sound good but rarely work with how the league is set up. These managers need team with big $$$ and a renown academy.

Atlanta signed Brandon Vasquez from Xolos. Not sure if a transfer or loan but a nice pickup for them.

I remember when Parkhurst was young and I was so excited about him, did not know he went to Norway for 4 years. And then after THAT he went to Augsburg for a couple years.

I thought he was a very fine player. Sucks that he didn't get more chances during Bradley's later years and Klinsmann's early. I mean those of course were related to his performances or lack of appearances for club.

The funnel to success is extremely wide at the bottom and extremely narrow at the top.

I completely forgot about Parkhurst and I was really high on him in 2015. Just shows that I did not follow the Crew at all this year.

Atlanta is gonna compete right off the bat they have a good coach also and are possibly getting guardado also. Haven't heard much noise with Minnesota and their joining at the same time.

Exactly.

The difference being the deep pockets of Arthur Blank and his investors. The east is relatively weak so I'd agree they will jump right in there.

I watched the pre-game and first half of the today's debut at Mercedes-Benz and I thought the stadium looked pretty horrible in a "I can't believe they are touting this as a legitimate home field for an MLS team" horrible.

Bobby Dodd actually looked nice... with grass... outdoors...

There was a controversial non-penalty call within the first five minutes of today's game and the most controversial part of the play should have been the ridiculous amount of crumb rubber that went flying into the air.

Maybe the stadium will be nice for the Falcons but Atlanta United fans have been sold snake oil by Arthur Blank.

It's a ****ing joke that we have MLS teams playing on astroturf. It's ridiculous that the expansion bids are so competitive yet the ownership doesn't insist on grass. Garber and co. just don't care enough about the on-the-field product. I guess we shouldn't be surprised because it's not their sport.

The field sucked, but wasn't the game awesome?

I mean I kept thinking, I don't see this speed in passing in the league. I would hate to think that the turf was exclusive factor.

First time I saw Atlanta I thought they were pretty strong.

I know specific stadiums should be, (and I think are part of the deal) for MLS expansion. But so too style and quality of play. For some reason this team doesn't bother me as much as say, NYCFC, RedBull etc. Redbull with a beautiful stadium but years of sacrificing product for finances and star power attraction have left a bitter taste. For more than presumably Atlanta's would.
