I do not get it. So Avaya got the naming rights for the stadium but why not the naming rights for their jerseys? I think the no sponsor jerseys are the worst. I think Avaya could have done a deal to get the naming right to both the stadium and jersey but you see where their priorities are. How many teams left without jersey sponsors? I think the Earthquakes are the only team in the league without a jersey sponsor.

Either way I am glad they have permanent seats for the players and staff and not those steel flat benches on the sidelines like the Galaxy and a few others have.

FCD had a similar situation with Pizza Hut with the naming rights while we were still not sponsored on the kit. Pretty sure Advocare is our first kit sponsor and they only started at the beginning of last season (or maybe the season before, I can't recall offhand).

If a team doesn't need or want a kit sponsor, why is that a bad thing?

Actually the Galaxy replaced the benches with leather seats last year.

I personally think not having a kit sponsor is amateurish. Like you mentioned FC Dallas and Pizza Hut getting the stadium naming rights and not the jersey right. It should just be a package deal in that case.

Really? I have not seen a Galaxy match in awhile but next time I watch I will definitely look for them. Are they permanent or on the sideline like a few clubs in Latin America and Europe have? Good for the Galaxy though.

Don't know what the deal is w/ other teams but I don't think the Galaxy jersey has ever matched the stadium. Stadium was Home Depot. Now Stubhub. Jersey has been Herbalife for as long as I can remember.

I don't think anyone can call Barcelona amateurish and they didn't get a kit sponsor until the last handful of years...if you don't need the money, why sell yourself out like that? If it was truly no-strings-attached cash for putting a logo on the jersey, instead of the all encompassing advertising and appearance clauses in today's sponsorship deals, then I'd see your point. Since that isn't the case, hold out as long as you can financially and use the space for a big club logo or something...or just leave it empty like Barca did for so many years.

It's a bummer they don't have one yet, but they're taking their time to get it right....no more Amway debacles.

A few potential companies have been mentioned over the past couple months.

Stryker Corp (medical supply)

Marvell (Tech)

TCL Roku TV (communications)

Prudential

Citrix (Tech)

VYSK (Tech encryption)

Kaval is trying to bring in a heavyweight Silicon Valley tech company. Hope he can pull it off.

Barca has a history. They are their own sponsor. It is weird seeing Barca with a sponsor and they were very selective with who they would allow to be their sponsor. I think more people were disappointed by them having a sponsor on their jersey than not. I was. Please no BIG 'San Jose' across the chest though. I would rather the empty chest.

Amway was the sponsor for 2-3 years, but incredibly, I don't believe the FO realized how negatively that sponsor would be perceived on their jersey, and how that would affect the Earthquakes brand. I know some of you are chuckling as you read that...Amway seems so appropriate for that scruffy low budget team, but to the fans it was a WTF embarrassment.

But that's the point, it's not just the money, which wasn't much, you need to feel good about the name, because to some extent it gives your brand a bump in cred. They realized you need to aim much higher and stay as far away as possible from low budget household cleaning products... FO PR took a beating on that one. They're going to hopefully get it right this time.
