We are at the critical point in the cycle. The home stretch. I decided to look at this point last cycle and see how many players made the world cup roster without appearing in the critcal september camp. I found 4. Beasley, Herc, Buddle, & Edu. It really shows how important this time of year is. So my question is who do you think that wont be on the sept roster will still be in Brazil, and conversely, whos spots do they take. Here's my 4:

Chandler in. Evans out. I think Chandler is bypassed one last time but overtakes Evans before May.
Boyd in. EJ out. I think with AJ, Lando, Clint, Zusi all potential wingers we dont need EJ's versatility. Boyd will miss the rest of this year but should be back in 2014. This could also become Agudelo's spot.
Shea in. Castillo out. I think Castillo and Beasley are fighting for 1 spot as backup LB/swing LM. I think if Shea gets healthy and gets minutes he's in Brazil.
Mixx in. Jones out. I think this is the shock pick. I dont think Mixx will be here in sept with Lando, Corona, Zusi, all available I dont see Mixx coming for sept. However with Jones up there in age, and the most potential games on his plate (UCL, Bundes, DFB Portal) he's probably got the most games to play amongst all our players. I could easily see him start breaking down.

Great post, but I can't imagine that the box-to-box ability of Mixx will be enough to overtake the defensive prowess of Jones. IMO, Jones is second choice behind MB, but in front of (in this order) Mixx, Holden, Sasha, Beckerman, Danny Williams. With Holden unlinkely to make a return in time to be fit and in form, chances are we'll see MB, Jones and Mixx for sure with the last of the CDM spots being fought out among the last three. Right now I give Beckerman the edge just because JK seems to have a little bit of a crush, or is jealous of the bitchin' 'do. I think, unless Beckerman goes on loan in the MLS offseason, he'll get edged out by both Sasha and Williams.

Mixx was terrible against Bosnia. I am not sold he can play well (consistently) against top class talent.

Predictions are hard to make. Right now I would say it's easier to predict who is in.

For me all of these players will be in as long as they stay injury free:

GK: Rimando, Guzan, Howard

Defense: Cameron, Brooks, Gonzo, Besler, Fabian, Beasley

CM's: Jones, Bradley, Corona, Kljestan

Attackers: Deuce, Lando, Altidore, Johannsson, Zusi

So that leaves 5 spots open for a finalized 23 man roster:

These are the players fighting for those last 5 spots:

Defense: Dolo, Lichaj, Chandler, Evans, Castillo, Goodson

Cm's: Edu, Diskerud, Torres, Beckerman

Attackers: Shea, EJ, Agudelo, Wood, Boyd, Gomez, Bedoya

Fantastic post. But JK isn't going to omit our only legitimate Champions League player from the Brazil roster. We know how much JK values that competition and rightfully so. And Jones is needed.

All true. And If that doesn't convince you guys that Jones WILL be there, then I will. Jones has never played in a WC. He missed out in 2010. I think most of you are forgetting that. Do you really think JK is going to keep him out of his first and final shot at playing in a WC? No.

Ej has always been one of my favorite players going back to the 06 world cup. I will would love for him to make the team, but I also think agudelo will have a good season and klinsy can only take one of those two sooo out of those 5 spots I say Evans , edu (can think of him as also a last resort cab), Torres, then out of the attackers eh has the edge over agudelo and bedoya has the edge over Shea but both of those could change over this year. First time ever we are going to have to leave players off the roster that have a lot of quality about them... but remember we will get a couple injuries just the harshness of the sport... I'm injured right now... anyway gotta love the depth klinsy has made

If healthy Jones will be on the roster without a doubt. Im just saying if you had to pick someone out of the 23 to get injured from now until Brazil wouldnt he be high on the list?

Jones not being on the WC squad is BLASPHEMOUS - is he our best player? No. But he is quite adept and has a great engine. At worst, he's an above average sub in the midfield.

I don't know if this is coming up because of Kljestan love or Mixx love or whatever, but it's ridiculous. Don't get me wrong - Sacha and Mixx are great players. Even with the conundrum surrounding a Jones/Bradley midfield, not having him in Brazil would be a horrible decision by JK. At this point, I see no reason why he won't go - I'm tired of hearing that he's having all these "bad games" - everyone does. Most of what Jones does isn't that remarkable but vital nonetheless.

Steady 2tone. We agree here. I've seen a few others who have a bias against Jones in other posts. But I meant most as in I am willing to bet that a lot of people here have forgotten that he was not on our WC 2010 team. He has been such a mainstay since the Brazil friendly it seems like he has been around forever.

Great thread guys, I would agree that Jones is in and I would say that On par with or just behind Mixx and Kljestan would be Beckerman, not on my list necessarily, but on JKs leaving Edu off the list due to lack of PT.

Other than Jozy, up top is all going to be about who is scoring goals between here and April.

Wildcards I believe will be in are Beasley and Evens because of their pure versatility. Beasley can play almost anywhere on the outside, even up top and he's been to 3 WCs, even if he doesn't play a minute is valuable to bring him in, just like it is to bring in Rimando.

It'll be interesting and let's hope Jozy and Bradley stay healthy because we have a shot at going as far as we ever have.
