Lichaj definitely deserves to be called up. Nottingham Forest fans can't stop raving about him, and Villa fans were crushed when he left.

Klinsmann needs to recognize that Lichaj is the USMNT's best RB option going forward.

Chandler is flaky and does not have Lichaj's defensive prowess.

Lichaj is faster and stronger than both Evans and Cameron.

He has started 4 games in a row and gone 90 minutes in all of them.

If Jurgen is calling up 20 year old CB's then what is the goddamn hold up with Lichaj?

I think that JK will call him up in Sept. If not then they must have some persoanl history we don't know about.

I agree that he deserves a look with the playing time he has been getting. There may have just not been a good situation at Villa but you have to remember he had to drop a league lower to get this playing time. Does anyone recall how he fared in the past when Bradley called him in for the previous Gold Cup? Is there some bad history that is preventing him from getting brought back in? If JK doesnt intend on starting Parkhurst (which would be nuts) then he should bring in someone how is actually getting minutes on the field and is in form to serve as a bench RB option.

I would say its Evans job to loose for the moment. If he sliips then I think we go with Cameron since he is playing RB for Stoke.

He got mixed reviews his last time out, but this I'm sure the fact that they came out with a point helped. Not sure his "defensive prowess" is any different than Chandler's but his current form is definitely much higher.

We can safely say he rates Evans higher at RB than Lichaj, but if a guy like Parkhurst gets called for WC Qualies it will be the definition of a travesty.

It's ironic, I am emphatically supporting Lichaj's callup, but I do consider him to be a mediocre and foul prone RB. It is telling of our RB state more than anything else....

seems reasonable to reserve outrage regarding lichaj at least until we see roster next week.

lichaj did not play very much last year and is only 4 games in for NF. its not like the guy has been killing it for 6 months. and it is not like he is playing in a top (like top 10) league.

even if JK does not call in lichaj he will be able to say that he would like to see him playing regularly for more than 4-5 games.

of course, calling in parkhurst (not even dressing with his club) would seemingly blow up any excuses he has about not calling lichaj

but JK could make a reasonable argument that evans (his current #1 RB), chandler, and cameron are all ahead of lichaj as far as RB depth for sept. WCQs

Yellow card problems at RB for the Sept. WC qualies:

Both Cameron and Evans are on yellow card issues. If either or both get yellow cards in the game against Costa Rica then both will have to sit out against Mexico.

For this reaon it seems logical to bring in Lichaj.

Lichaj is a terrier in defense, and maybe a bit to aggressive. But mediocre? You don't shut down Bale by being a mediocre defender.

I think that Cameron, Evans, and Chandler are in front of him. I also think that Yedlin could be looking at a call up just as back up in case yellow cards force players out. I watched the Seattle game vs Portland and that kid can fly and has a great touch. I wouldn't be surprised if JK starts the process of including him now. If we don't get yellows, he doesn't dress.

It frustrates me that he wasn't called in for bosnia because friendlies are the perfect time to intergrate players back into the team.

I believe chandler is better now and has the potential to be better than lichaj but who even knows if he wants to play for the US. I don't think JK really believes parkhurst is better than chandler, but rather is omission was like altidore's back in 2012, except for chandler its to get in his head he needs to be ready to play no matter where the game is and be committed.

I don't like how hard it is to get through Jurgen's initiation process, but then how easy it is to get opportunities once you passed that hump (Danny Williams and Tim Ream etc)

Should be the other way around. Foolish.

One could argue that the English Championship is around #8-10 caliber

I saw Lichaj play a bit last year, I thought he had some consistently good play compared to the rest of the team. He is a long and accurate thrower-of-the-ball, he gets forward well, and I remember a couple of pile-drivers that he released at the goal from range. He's not world class, or near the top of the league, but (in my opinion) better than any in MLS. I was enraged when Villa released him.

well, this conversation is a source of perpetual debate, with no great way to draw conclusions with much clarity - but i will say this:

8-10 in the world? no. not even close. when you add top leagues in brazil, argentina and mexico to top 7-8 in europe there is no WAY the championship enters that convo.

8-10 in europe? i think that is a fallacy. yea, the top 5-7 LC teams might be decent (decent - not great - we are talking bottom of EPL and worse type teams), but one always has to keep in mind that there are 24 teams in LC with MANY of them being pretty marginal squads.

i would rate LC behind top divisions of turkey, greece and switzerland, all of whom already rank outside the top 10 in europe

i guess one could make the argument... i personally think its a poor argument

Don't want to sound harsh but that's exactly the type of Anglocentric thinking that plagues this site.

Of course you have the big four (La Liga, Bundesliga, Premier League, Serie A) in whatever order you like, after that you have Ligue 1, followed by the Brasileirao and Primera Division (Argentina) with Holland and Portugal after that. Number 10 is definitely a big step down...probably Russia or Mexico. Anyway, the Championship is inferior to several more leagues after that...the Scandinavian leagues, for example, have produced some very good players. Some of the newly promoted teams (the best in the Championship plus reinforcements) look absolutely horrendous.

Honestly I'd rather have our guys playing in the MLS instead of the Championship. At least they're helping grow the sport here.

Hrmmm, haven't seen it myself but some are reporting Lichaj will not be called in for the qualifiers per the Nottingham Forest website.
