Just became the first US defender signed to a DP contract, glad to see MLS keeping young American talent in the league. Also Gonzo could use another year in MLS, plus LA gets a bigger transfer fee if they sell him after the World Cup, I wonder what his Salary is now 500 to 600k?

funny how JK comes in and challenges / encourages everyone to play at highest level possible... and guys are staying or returning to MLS in droves

i am not dissing MLS or saying this is bad move for gonzo, i just think it is kind of funny/ironic how that is working out

Whoa $1.5m per season?! That's a lot more than I expected.

Good for him. Can't blame these Americans for staying and getting this big money. And MLS is definitely getting better. Always a risk of sitting on the bench every cold, rainy Saturday in Worcestercumbriabuckinghamshire.

Feel bad for YA.

In a new CBA year, my guess is that LA has a bit of an insider information on the new CBA and possibly the increase in DP's.

Good for Omar in a WC year, but it's only a 3 year contract which means he could be sold in two years as a 26 year old to a big club in Europe. A good WC and subsequent following years will boost the value even more for Gonzo. He is still young for a CB at 24.

Good for MLS and the continued boost of paying American players that deserve to be paid this kind of money. Also MLS may be able to command a fairly big transfer fee for Omar in a couple of years.

For me being a supporter of MLS as a whole, I really like the deal because I can still watch one of the best CB's, who is an American, in MLS a few more years.

All and all I really like the deal. Good on MLS and LA.

I don't know about you but I definitely did a double take at this headline "White House Fence-Jumper Omar Gonzalez Held Without Bail."

Not the sort of character with whom you want to share a name.

I thought the same thing when I read it. Not quite as motivated to go the extra mile to find wherever this was buried at though ha.

He should go to Europe. Seems to have cut out those mental mistakes he was struggling with.

Omar is gone to Pachuca. Another player moving to Mexico. I think good new challenge that can help him come back to national team level caliber. Seems like staying here in MLS has put him in a comfort zone needs to start over again and work to earn team minutes

Probably getting paid more too. Clausura starts soon. I assume we won't see him next month.

considering what his weaknesses are, and considering the style of play in Liga Mx compared to MLS...this is probably a great move (for USMNT).

We'll know if he can take the next step forward to being more than just a physical presence, and actually get the technical/tactical side of the game down. See if he can play at a faster pace.

Things we need to know moving forward for the USMNT. I predict he will either completely fall out of grace with the USMNT or he will be a defensive stalwart for the USMNT for the next decade with this move. Don't think there is much in between (unless others fall flat on their face too).
