well, with september roster we now have a better idea of JKs depth at CM... i guess. beyond bradley and jones it looks like:

3) cameron (i mean, if he is not playing RB... or CB...) - played some CM several years ago in MLS, before dom kinnear decided he was better off at CB... and way before stoke decided his best position was RB. if cameron is our #3 CM based on 1 home game v panama - id say were F'd.

4) beckerman - aging MLS journeyman who no one ever wants to see on roster

5) diskerud - guy who has trouble making an impact in a semi-pro league in norway. (relax, i am being sarcastic - but we really should not have any players on USMNT who play at a lower level than austria / MLS / bund. 2 / championship (however you rank those leagues) unless you are absolutely tearing them apart (as chuck davies was doing in sweden when he got his call). mix has not demonstrated an ability to directly impact the offense and the fact that he has averaged 55 minutes for rosenborg over last 16 appearances seems to indicate limited value at this point)

meanwhile kljestan continues to be ignored. there is ONE US player that plays on a euro team ranked higher than sacha's anderlecht (39) - jones with schalke (14).

dont care for the belgian league? why? while anderlecht will play UCL, 3 other belgian squads won play-offs to advance to europa
- zulte-waragem - pressed anderlecht for crown last season and saw off 11-12 UCL quarterfinalists APOEL to advance to group stage
- standard liege - perennially strong team that leads league through 5 games - has yet to concede a goal. won europa play-off 5-1 on aggregate
- genk - another strong side who breezed through play-off 7-2 on aggregate

the kljestan story becomes more and more disappointing with every camp. at some point between now and our 3rd, 4th and 5th game in brazil we will need a reliable CM besides bradley or jones... given the weakness of our CM depth (sorry folks, this is a very thin position, not deep whatsoever) the fact that sacha has never been given a full opportunity to demonstrate his ability with full team in meaningful games is truly perplexing

Kljestan provides a skillset that our team doesn't really benefit from. See almost every game he has played except for perhaps 1. Mixx brings creative playmaking ability. Yes, he is an inferior player, but we NEED players of Mixx's type.

I would rather see kljestan in the midfield than Jones. He's never done anything for me

I don't think kljestan fit in the Usmnt before, but with the revitalized team around him I think he'd be a good fit.

Jones isn't in the starting lineup against Bayer Leverkusen. I assume he's getting benched for his recklessness against PAOK. Anybody hear anything otherwise?

the schalke coach has 3 CMs for 2 spots - jones, neustadter and hoger. last season it was mainly nuestadter and jones but hoger is young (23), was a semi-regular last season (15 starts), and looks like he will be earning more PT this season.

with schalke starting the season really poorly with jones starting every game and playing well today - beating leverkusen 2-0 - with jones on bench, would not be surprised to see jones on bench more often

Yeah I think the problem with jones is that he can get too unsettled when things arent going well. For example in the bosnia game he gave away so much possesion after a while he just passed it back or gave it to bradley. Problem with jones is that his performances for the usmnt are not good enough. He is not worried about being benched I think klinsmann is hurting his play he keeps telling jones you are an automatic starter and jones keeps playing badly. Dude does not fit with bradley never has never will if we had lost in bosnia it would have been on jones worst player for the us on the field that game along with ej. Truth is dude needs to be benched no american player should feel they can play badly and get away with it. Jones needs to raise the level of his game I am getting sick and tired of him playing like crap with the national team and then always playing well for schalke. Anyways thats my rant I think jones is a good player just doesnt bring his best for the national team because he doesnt fit with bradley and doesnt stay back and defend while bradley attacks.

i have been rough on mix but ultimately i really dont have a huge problem with him being on the roster - my problem is that JK thinks he needs mix but not kljestan.

depending on where you want to play fabian i think you need to sacrifice a guy like castillo or possibly one of bedoya or zusi - who (i think) most people think are back-up options for the same position (a substitute wide attacking option).

for me, the sacrifice is castillo, who is basically beasley-lite. no need for both guys on the roster. just dont see any way you actually ever play castillo

very reasonable chance that schalke begins to phase out jones this season - neustadter is already a regular CM and coach keller is high on young marco hoger. and jones' play is just as jeckl/hyde with schalke as it is with USMNT

kljestan plays 90 min very high-level CM week in week out. just has to be part of this team. mix might be a nice secret weapon to have in your pocket but sacha will get a job done next to bradley if needed, no problem. beckerman is a nice DM to hold a result and mix MAY add spark off the bench to find a goal, but if you need 90 min... got to be kljestan. i dont see how any fan can support his exclusion at this point

the thing with mix v COB is that mix is still young enough (22) to give him the benefit of the doubt with some inconsistent play. part of the reason mix is getting an opportunity is based on potential, not actual production

COB will turn 25 this fall and, for me, the danish league has really dropped off the last few years. evidence of that is this year the danish champ (copenhagen) got an auto pass into UCL group stage, but next year a danish team will have to go through 2 rounds of qualifying to reach that point (very unlikely). yes, i personally would still rate it a step above sweden/norway...
but not really "good enough" for USMNT unless you are really standing out (and hopefully on your way up to a better league)

We have too many people like COB. We have very few creative offensive minded players capable of making plays. (don't even mention Freddy Adu, I'm not even sure Freddy Adu metaphysically exists)

Bradley needs to guarantee he gets first team time at Roma. I don't like seeing him lose out to Strootman.

Hmm, wonder if another bid from Sunderland has come in for Bradley.

Also, Kljestan scored for Anderlecht in their league match. Baffling that he is left out of this roster.
