My 23 would be...

Goalkeepers: (3) Howard, Guzan, Rimando
Defenders: (8) Chandler, Dolo, Gonzo, Brooks, Besler, Yedlin(suprise pick), Beasley, Cameron
Midfielders: (8) Donovan, Bradley, Jones, Zusi, Kljestan, F. Johnson, Corona, Bedoya
Forwards: (4) Altidore, Johansson, Dempsey, Boyd

My starting XI.... 1-3-2-4

-----Altidore-----
-Iceman-Donovan-Dempsey-
---Jones---Bradley---
-Fabian-Brooks-Gonzo-Dolo-
---Howard/Guzan---

If Jones plays poorly and starts to break down Bradley rotates and Zusi comes in.

If you are picking a 23 man roster and starting XI right now, not in May, you cant pick Boyd or Dolo. They are injured. Also would highly doubt Yedlin would be brought into a world cup with 0 caps. In May it could happen, but picking them now, as the OP was asking is just plain wrong

Yeah it was who I think are our current best players as of now not if the World Cup started today.

I think everyone is under the impression this should be the front 6, myself included. but Jones/Bradley aren't the best pairing. Iceman isn't a true Left CAM. and Dempsey Donovan and Iceman can all play relatively the same position (withdrawn Forward). It's interesting to see where everyone will be suited up, and if personal player preferences are taken into account.

---Altidore---
-Iceman-Donovan-Dempsey-
--Jones--Bradley--

I still see Fabian Johnson in the running to start on the left. If all seven (your six, plus FJ) are healthy, I'd put Donovan on the right, FJ on the left and flip a coin over whether to start Dempsey or Johannsson in the hole behind Jozy.

Sorry I don't see Iceman as a winger, never have.

How don't you.. In the system we have, to get the best players on the field that's where he should play. Although I'm not against a 4-4-2.

Yeah, I've always been all for Fab to be at LM he should start there in September. but come next summer I don't think he will be the LM is what I'm saying. When he can play LB and the options at LM include hopefully Shea, Johanson, Duece. Like I said it'll be interesting with all the similarities of players what JK will do to get his BEST players on the field together. Whether someone will be out of position, or where his Captain Duece will be play

4-1-3-2!

--Jozy--IceBacon--
Fab---Duece---LD
----MB------
Beas-JAB-Cam-?????

My RB choice depends on the situation, right now I'd probably take Evans just on form...the place is reserved for Dolo and then Chandler in my mind, so fingers crossed.

Anyway, I see a lot of diagonal runs up top crisscrossing each other to get a pass on their preferred foot for the first time shot or a deft touch. Very attacking setup but if anyone has been keeping up with my posts they'll know that I believe offense is the best defense. This setup is not only set up for a potent attack, but also for a lot of possession.

Yeah I'd love to see this setup used to really put pressure on a team that bunkers in on us

The problem with this formation is Bradley is IMO one of the best in the world at making 30-50 yard runs from that CD position. By having only one cdm he can not do that and takes away some of his game. I like the idea but it doesn't utilize our best players ... this is why Jones actually complements Bradley ... Jones isn't the best distrubter but his job is to break up play and in force physical play in the middle. He and Bradley need to stay in the cdm together against WC quality opponents. Jones is an inforcer and u most likely will see him out of at least one WC game because of card accumalation. So then u will see how much we lost defensively unless we just stick beckerman in there.... ew

this is cold hard truth. MB needs a pure CM partner - whether it is jones or someone else

He only needs that partner when the formation dictates. We have a quick backline that can deal with a counter attack and we're safe, the formation is set up for wing-inward attacking movement with the final move coming from interplay/give-n-go at the top of the box. The MB could just as easily be taken up by Jones, as MBs keen distribution won't be as needed when short passing is the emphasis

if your objective is to try to devise ways to optimally dismantle and destroy inferior CONCACAF opponents then you MIGHT consider that formation

if your objective is to consistently compete with better teams in the world you will not consider leaving MB essentially on his own in the center of the field

but if people want to spend time thinking about ways to expand score lines against weak opponents - have at it

I agree with this, and I expect that Jones-Bradley is the CM pairing barring injury. I also assume that we will start games with a back 4 and a lone striker. Jozy will be the lone striker, and I believe that a clear first-choice centerback pairing will emerge by the end of the Hex (Goodson and Besler appear to be the front-runners now). Howard is our starting keeper. Therefore, barring injury, the only thing to talk about for the next year is the 3 attacking midfielders and the outside backs. And the outside backs dictate who the wingers should be (and vice versa).

I cant see Johannsson take a starting spot just yet. He'll get there just not yet. Mine is a 4411 or a 4231

Jozy
Clint
Fabian-Jones-Bradley-LD
Beasley-Besler-Gonzo-Chandler
Howard

Oh and Brooks is in the same boat as Johannsson. Will be there just not yet.

This is really close to what I expect to see. I think Klinsmann selects Goodson ahead of Gonzo and Evans ahead of Chandler. I agree with him on Goodson, but would start Parkhurst at RB. Until the new car smell wears off, I'd pick Johannsson ahead of Clint.

JA
AJ
Fabian-Jones-Bradley-LD
Beasley-Besler-Goodson-Parkhurst
Howard

Somebody figure out how to reverse the J and make a t-shirt with AJJA based on the ᗅᗺᗷᗅ symbol. I'd buy one.

Not convinced Brooks will have a starting spot for WC. I am virtually convinced that Johanssen will due to his consistency in europe (consecutive good seasons) and stellar skillset and potential.
