I don't see any way, with the youth and inconsistency of our CB's, that we don't have two CMF's who are strong defensively starting in Brazil. CB will almost certainly be our weakest position and we will need coverage. Therefore the only CMF options really are Bradley, Jones, Cameron, and Kljestan. I think option two is most likely, Jozy, Clint, Fabian, Bradley, Jones, Donovan, Beasley. I am not convinced on any of the rest of the back 4.

Gonna have to drop an HSO on you guys. Rimando will NOT make the WC roster. Period. A 34 year-old 5'10" keeper is not the guy you want as your 3rd option in a competition featuring the best footballing nations in the world. I think Sean Johnson, or possibly even Bill Hamid, will be our 3rd keeper next summer. Here's the rest of my 23 man roster:

Goalkeepers: Howard, Guzan, S. Johnson
Defenders: Besler, Gonzalez, Cameron, Brooks, Beasley, F. Johnson, Chandler, Evans
Midfielders: Bradley, Jones, Donovan, Zusi, Mix, Corona, Kljestan, Shea
Attackers: Dempsey, Altidore, E. Johnson, Johannsson

Starting XI:

------------Altidore------------

-Johannsson---Dempsey----Donovan-

-------Cameron----Bradley-------

-F. Johnson--Besler-Brooks--Chandler-

------------Howard------------

I think the LB spot is up for grabs, Beas, Castillo and Fab are all great going forward, and can cover positionally, but aren't particularly skilled in defense (Johnson maybe a little more skilled than Beas/Castillo), Ream looks like the best defensive option, but is an unknown quantity going forward. The problem is that we haven't yet experimented enough with Ream in friendlies or WCQs to find out if he'd be a good balance. I would imagine that when it comes down to it, our offensive prowess is more important to JK than keeping a clean sheet, and I'm inclined to agree...therefore: Beas will get the start with Fab or Shea (whoever is getting more minutes and is in better form) playing in front of him as the LW/LM.

I think that your formation might work, but Bradley would need to be replaced with Jones IMO. He's the more defensive of our CMs and Duece would be getting forward and staying forward until the ball was played into our own defensive third.

Gosh, I just can't conceive of a full-strength US MNT lineup that doesn't have Bradley in it. I'm a convert.

I think both Bradley and Jones start, if healthy, so a really good offensive player is probably going to sit (or, in the case of Fabian, maybe play defense). Then again, maybe Johannsson isn't ready, and we don't really have a quandary to deal with.

I don't agree about Rimando, but I like your lineup.

Rimando will be the third keeper at the WC unless there is an injury to Guzan and/or Howard before the cup. As much as I'd like to see it, there is no way Klinsmann will throw Sean Johnson or Bill Hamid into that tournament without more starts in international games. They both have a ton of ability and potential, and I doubt JK will want to choose one over the other for this WC. There's a strong likelihood that the two of them will be competing for the starting spot in the next WC (or at least the 2022 WC). If one of them goes on a hot streak and doesn't allow a goal between now and the WC, I will probably be eating my words on this.

It would be fun to see how a game with that formation might go.

My starting 11 would look like this

--Jozy-AJ---

-LD-MB-JJ-CD--

-FJ-Brooks-Besler/Gonzo-Chandler-

---Howard/Guzan--

Brooks with a full year of Bundsliga action he will be polished and ready to dominate. I know I'm projecting but he is maturity is beyond his age and his talent is undeniable. If Gonzo can continue to grow and progress he will get the nod due to his hieght. If not the spot is defintely Beslers. Could you imagine having 2 CB's standing over 6'3"! I think another outstanding year for Aston Villa will make it a very, very tough decision for JK. JJ will get back to form once the Bundsliga starts. Chandler is cap tied and will want to play in the World Cup and make a name for himself and JK will make him earn it, but by far he is our most talented RB. If he fails to show Dolo will get the nod.

Edgar/DMB--Besler--Brooks--Cameron/evans

It'd be a nightmare to defend and I believe we could score on any team with this lineup. Defensively is spotty as usual but if our fullbacks find form I'd be happy to take the risk. I just love the idea of having all of these guys in the field at once.

Yep, this is pretty much what I had, but I don't think it will happen. If Bradley is the more defensive of the two CM's, that would mean Dempsey would have to come back to pick up the ball in MB's typically positions when we are transitioning out of our defensive 3rd. I'm having trouble imagining Dempsey that far away from the other team's goal. Then again if Gerard can go from playing second striker for 'pool to being the pivot for England, Clint should be able to make the transition. But I do recall Gerard making some errant back passes in his defensive third that turned into nice assists for the other team - so that's a risk. And we saw that with EJ playing a relatively new position on the wing this week (forwards don't worry as much about turning the ball over).

I totally agree on Chandler. But on Gonzo not quite. I think he's battling Brooks for that spot next to Besler not the other way around. Besler has proved he's more polished than him. Plus height doesn't mean EVERYTHING with CBs.

My 23 would be...

Goalkeepers: (3) Howard, Guzan, Rimando
Defenders: (8) Chandler, Dolo, Gonzo, Brooks, Besler, Yedlin(suprise pick), Beasley, Cameron
Midfielders: (8) Donovan, Bradley, Jones, Zusi, Kljestan, F. Johnson, Corona, Bedoya
Forwards: (4) Altidore, Johansson, Dempsey, Boyd

My starting XI.... 1-3-2-4

---------Altidore---------
-Iceman--Donovan--Dempsey-
-----Jones-----Bradley-----
--Fabian-Brooks-Gonzo-Dolo--
------Howard/Guzan------

If Jones plays poorly and starts to break down Bradley rotates and Zusi comes in.

I think everyone is under the impression this should be the front 6, myself included. but Jones/Bradley aren't the best pairing. Iceman isn't a true Left CAM. and Dempsey Donovan and Iceman can all play relatively the same position (withdrawn Forward). It's interesting to see where everyone will be suited up, and if personal player preferences are taken into account.

-----Altidore-----
-Iceman-Donovan-Dempsey-
---Jones---Bradley---

Actually I would switch LD and CD. LD has more pace. Would remind me of a poor mans Bayern even thought they run a 3-3-4. LD and AJ are your wingers with Dempsey as a CAM.

His deft touch, pace, vision and all around skill makes it a super easy transisiton to winger. Really no transition at all.
