Altidore has the best shot of any of the strikers, and can shoot with both feet. He's just not that good at creating his own shot. But this is the Johansson thread.

The only thing Altidore has is athleticism, he's not technical, nor is he a dribbler, and he's not a smart player who makes runs into the box. Although he does have a wicked power shot but so does every striker out there, his form show's he doesn't belong any where near the US team right now.

Agudelo should not be called up either seeing as he is struggling in the MLS against defenders whom are even the greatest in the world, average at best. We just need someone who makes runs, dribbler, creates plays for himself and has great ball skill. Is that too much to ask?

What good are runs if they get the ball and can't finish?
The only FW we really have that can create for himself is Dempsey and/or Zardes. But everything else about Zardes is just not good enough.

The biggest problem we have at FW is we don't have anyone that can do it all. All of them have big flaws.
AJ makes great runs (some of them are just beautiful to watch), but I haven't seen much out of him at the international level in terms of creating his own shot and/or finishing well. Some of that is our Midfielders aren't the best at creating shots for others, which limits what he can do.
Really our best creator of shots for others is Jozy Altidore when he is on form. But his runs leave a LOT to be desired. He also finishes very well and powerfully. He can on occasion create for himself, but he is often stagnant (it's not laziness) and gets lost tactically.
Dempsey can create for himself wonderfully and finish, but he often freelances too much and our shape loses itself and we end up with little consistency, he also doesn't flow well with how JK wants to play (quick attack, 1-2 touches), which makes our attack look stagnant often.

Really our best Tandem when on form is Jozy and AJ (they should pair up well theoretically and complement each other). But they just haven't been in form/healthy at the same time yet. I'm hoping come October that they are in-form and Dempsey has a little knock that forces him not to come.

Line up an in form Jozy and ArJo with Bradley/Bedoya/Jones/Williams in the midfield and I think you will see a very good attack.

why are people bagging on agudelo but not mentioning zardes? zardes has been worse than agudelo (same production in more mins). neither have been good.

that being said goal scorers run hot and cold and i wouldnt be surprised to see either heat up at any moment

cj sapong is currently the most in-form US striker beyond dempsey, hands down. will it last? we'll see

top 5 US strikers

1) dempsey
2) johannsson
3) sapong
4) altidore
5) rubin/wood/wooten

as of now we are likely to see dempsey/arjo v mexico. i thought they looked ok in GC. put a reasonable MF behind them (no beckerman, no zardes) and they may look quite good

When it's on the line as it is right now w/ the run up to the Confed cup playoff, Dempsey is guaranteed to be in the starting 11 barring injury. I've actually never been a huge fan of Dempsey but the dude scores and I think there's a pretty big gap between him and all the other forwards. No one else has really made a compelling case to be in the starting 11. Hopefully this changes because if Deuce is the best we got in Russia then we're fucked.

I think what's harder to admit for JK is the fact that Dempsey and Bradley together just don't work. And that isn't a complaint or task against JK. And it shouldn't be taken as one against Demps either. We're talking about swollen cojones region. If he were to come out directly and say it, it would be public suicide. To say that our two best players are best suited away from each other.

Couldn't agree more with the statement that Dempsey & Bradley together don't work (I'd add WELL). However so long as JK wants to field Bradley as an attacking Mid further up the field I don't see a way to resolve the problem other than to bench one of them. Considering his age I'm of the opinion that it should be Dempsey.

Aron will be out for the rest of the season so we can write him off for the Copa America. Hopefully he can recover throughout the off season and get back in form next season.

And ppl like 2tone always included him in the rosters or had him with the fwds list. I hate to say it, but i think he will never suit up frequently with the US.

With confirmation that Johannsson is now sidelined through the summer what do people see as our striker pool for this summers Copa? I'm going under the assumption that we do qualify for the Olympics so I'm leaving Morris, Rubin and other U-23s out of the equation:
1) Jozy
2) Wood
3) Dempsey
4) Zardes
5) Bunbury
6) Agudelo

Bun bury and Agudelo are nowhere near the USMNT unfortunately. Agudelo continues to regress.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rubin and Morris.

Right now:

2tone - Agree that Morris, Rubin, & even Kiessewetter are higher up the food chain than Bunbury & Agudelo. I just don't think they'll be at the Copa. I think they'll be with the U-23s if we qualify for the Olympics. If we don't qualify then the player pool opens up a bit more for the Copa.
