Started this thread in the U20 category, figured it was more fitting for U18 news than the U17 section...

Been saying it for a while, our academy team is pretty awesome. Won the Frontier division last year and now we've got the most callups to the U18 combine.

DFW FTW!!

Yeah FC Dallas is def top 1 or 2 in academies(red bulls the other). Im from the time when Dallas Texans and Solar were top dogs, right before the academy system broke out.

Yep, good academy. Hopefully it starts to translate more the first team. Dallas was the only one about a year ago that got a 4 star rating by US Soccer.

The academy is awesome but it means nothing because it has yet to translate into a positive tangible benefit for the first team. The talent is definitely there but the younger players seem to find opportunities hard to come by. IMO I think Dallas will be one of the biggest long term beneficiaries of the USL-Pro affiliation regardless of whether they partner with a club or field their own side because it will provide a competitive forum for their young homegrown players who need time on the pitch.

I can agree with the fact that we haven't seen the academy really put anyone in the first team, aside from a couple of token appearances by a few different players...but we've got a lot of young guys that are poised to make an impact if we can't fend off our usual whirlwind of injuries.

Danny Garcia signed his HG contract not even two months ago, and he'll immediately deputize for Ferreira. Wouldn't be surprised to see David being sold within the next two years for some phat allocation cash.

It was Acosta U18. Until Hydman is gone, the FC Dallas academy won't reach its full potential

Please explain.

With 20+ years of college coaching experience, I would say that Schellas is in a good, if not great position to implement a quality training regiment focused on improving fundamental skills and tactical awareness. I'd like to see him be more involved with that team while we bring in a coach with a little bit more high level competition experience...not that I don't respect Schellas' experience, but that was as much development as it was actual match preparation. He's done well in his tenure and definitely don't want to see him go, but maybe a change is needed to take us to the next level.
