That article should not give anyone confidence he will play for the US.

It seemed like, "I have little information to offer, but it seems like I should be writing about this" type of article.

I'm not anymore or less discouraged. Not high expectations for it....let's just see how it plays out.

His former coach said this in the comments: dcsports84

I coached him for a year at Walter Johnson. He is legit. He is definitely leaning towards Germany but he is doing great things for Arsenal this summer. .....

Coach...that's great! WTH does leaning toward Germany mean? Does that imply that he has options? Grr.

You may be right, but doesn't seem prudent to limit your options (if indeed, he has options.)

It's not surprising that his father would possibly continue to pursue citizenship for himself and his family. Most people who meet the requirements go head and do it once they have the opportunity. In international soccer terms, it also makes sense to at least make an attempt to cover your bases just in case he doesn't get to the 1st team, although the prospects look good now.

I am not going to concern myself about a player that has a very low chance in ever repping the US.

What I will say is that the US system had a hand in developing him. Which is a credit to how far the USSF system has come. There are plenty of talented American citizens that are currently in the USSF academy system, I think I will continue to concern myself with those players.

if his father gets citizenship then he would automatically get citizenship because he is not an adult. Still low chances but thats the reports

Will be in the 18 for Arsenal this weekend to start the EPL season. Partly due to Arteta injury, but still, quite an accomplishment for him.

Here's the problem

Gedion has to live with his dad in London due to Gedion's young age. If his dad is living abroad, it becomes very, very hard to meet the requirements for US citizenship.

It really is a bummer to see US fans trying to get their hopes up over him. It's the longest of long shots.

The US just picked up Johannsson & Brooks.

Gedion will most likely never play for the US, it gives me comfort tho knowing we played a part in his development and he was discovered in the US.

I understand, but regardless of whether he will ever play for the usmmt, it's exciting to see a home grown player make such a quick jump.

Just to further piss everyone off Gedion could make his debut vs Tottenham on Saturday in the North London derby FA cup game. The game will be aired live on Fox too.
