Well it looks like another USMNT player will have to go under the knife for knee problems i.e. Herc Gomez. Hope he heals up alright.

But with that being said that opens the door for Aron Johannsson for the September WC qualies.

I think Boyd is still higher on JKs depth chart, and will probably be on the roster for the WCQs...Wouldn't be surprised to see AJ make the squad for one or more of the upcoming friendlies though.

Just guessing, really, but given that JK gave Boyd a chance before he made his move to Vienna, I think he's going to prefer him to anyone else coming in to the picture. I don't think he'll really make a decision on which he likes more until he gets them both in the Jan camp and can compare them more accurately.

I dont think Boyd is ahead of AJ. They are both 22 year olds and AJ will be playing in a much better league this year. Once the ink dries on his paperwork AJ moves ahead of Boyd. The interesting question is how quickly can he pass EJ on the depth chart

I agree MSantoine. JK doesn't seem to hold on to preference for too long. If one player is clearly better suited for right now, that person will step in. If AJ can file his paperwork and get a good showing in Bosnia while scoring goals for AZ, expect Boyd to be on the outside looking in. The future is definitely looking deeper in a lot of positions.

I really feel bad for Gomez as he's one of the good guys in the sport. We have several nice young prospects plus EJs hot streak makes Gomez expendable but its always nice to have options. More importantly I was really looking forward to watching him play for Los Xolos. Any idea for how long he will be out?

Any time surgery is involved on a tendon/ligament, you can bet that the layup will be at least a couple of months. I wouldn't expect to see him play much for the rest of the calendar year.

Yeah its gonna be a fistfight for the backup of Jozy. EJ has the spot now but Johansson, Boyd, and others will fight for it. I dont think Gomez was too high on that list but damn. Herc and Stu injured. The two nicest guys in our player pool.

Plus wouldve been nice to watch him with Tijuana. Guess we'll have to wait for his debut.

Conor O'Brien could finally make his Austrian debut for Wiener Neustadt on Saturday.
