I'd prefer wondo over EJ but that's a difference in philosophy, not a "who's better" thing. Wondo scores goals. Plain and simple. I would want that if it came down to choosing the last guy for Brazil.

Wondo scores one kind of goal, poach.

EJ scores set pieces goals and punt the ball across pitch beat your man to ball (intelligently staying onside) and score goal.

EJ does as well. I would say EJ is more of a late game threat with both his pace and aerial ability. Wondo while very good doesn't have the pace if the USMNT is countering late in the game.

It really comes down to a question of luck. Wondo is better at getting to the back shoulder, and EJ is better at getting seperation in the final third. That said... who knows in the last 2 minutes in the game that we need the win if we will need someone that will spring the trap, or finish with little seperation. I would pick EJ if it were me, but I err too much toward athleticism. I also, like Bob, would have picked Findley over Buddle to start, so I am not sure my method works.

Brooks playing really well the past two weeks. Looks like he I sstill in contention for the WC team, especially considering that neither Goodson nor Gonzo haven't exactly looked good to start the MLS season.

Good, the more competition the merrier. I am pleased that Juergen changed his mind and will trim the 30 man down to 23 in June. We're going to need that extra time to determine who goes and who stays.

Yeah, Brooks is in. I think there was a quid pro quo there too. But not for Boyd - he was never the prospect that Green & Brooks are/were. And picking Boyd would probably be bad PR too since you'd have some people bitching about all of the Germans.

It's pretty easy to add Brooks because we have so many mediocre CBs. You're never going to have a majority of people fighting to the death to defend any of them.

And, yeah, agree w/ EJ too. But pretty close call though. I guess you have to think how JK expects to use the 3rd striker (or not use him) at the WC. Pretty sad that EJ didn't improve one bit in the last 9 years. Kind of amazing. Or do people feel differently?

All that counts at this point is how they have looked for USMNT. Brooks has NOT looked well (he has been worse than Gonzo). It's not significant that he had a good club game. He can't be trusted for Brazil given his USMNT performances (which is different than club ball).

Chandler came back too early, he should have been 2nd half sub.

Should Joe Gyau get a look for the WC pre-lim roster considering the dearth of true wide players for the USMNT right now? He came on in the 69th minute for Hoffenheim today and looked reasonably good. I mean if Green gets an invite shouldn't Joe as well? who has been really good this year for Hoffenheim 2 and is now getting first team looks and minutes.

It seems Klinsmann disagrees with that stance since he stated that it's all about how well the player performs for their club these last few weeks. Add to the fact that he has been in constant contact with Hertha Berlin about Brooks the past month, I would say it's a safe bet Brooks will be called in for that WC pre-lim roster.

Navi - I agree, I think it would be a stretch for Brooks to make it. I agree with 2tone Goodson hasn't looked sharp with the Quakes, but he can tune it up in camp, his experience would be valuable in a supporting role. Can't wait to see the 30 man roster.

As the season winds down I wouldnt discount brooks. He has not been worse then gonzo he has faced much better competition and has been forced to pair up with players on a whim in the european frendlies. He has been paired up with cameron and onyewu.Gonzo has mostly been paired up with besler and concacaf is one thing the world cup is another. If brooks keeps playing like he is in the bundesliga then I think he warrants a chance to start especially considering gonzo made mistakes on both goals for mexico and I feel gonzo is so mistake prone its riduclous. Also I will give klinsmann discretion on the choice for chandler. If klinsmann feels chandler would cause team chemistry or locker room concerns then ill support the choice. However if klinsmann doesn't feel this way chandler should be at least called up to the 30 and given a chance to start at right back. The fact we have two bundesliga starting defenders who have the chance to get meaningful minutes in the next coming weeks is deffinetly a good thing considering how weak our defense has looked at times.
