with gold cup done and dusted we're officially into "world cup year"

probably in the minority, but i didnt really see anyone play themselves onto the 23. i did see castillo lose his spot and i think bedoya, tentatively, moves into that "last man on" spot, basically by default.

i assume many will disagree about diskerud. i think he played himself into the conversation but still has work to do - for club and with the full squad

not a prediction, just how i see it as of now:

D: beasley, besler, brooks, chandler, cherundolo, gonzalez, goodson, f. johnson
CM: bradley, edu, jones, kljestan
AM: bedoya, dempsey, donovan, zusi
S: altidore, boyd, e. johnson
* cameron (btw - MH has him starting at RB in preseason)

just missed:
- beckerman, boca, castillo, corona, diskerud, evans, gomez, shea, torres, williams

Don't see how Boyd, Kljestan, Dolo or Brooks can be on the 23 "as of now".

EDU? Kljestan ? I think not. We have to evaluate edu we havent seen him in quite a while and Kljestan just doesnt do what we need him too. We all saw his performance before WCQ and it wasnt too good. I would see Corona torres and Diskerud in that mix still. As for Beckerman he had a wonderful performance in GC. Now we know what he brings but unless he translates that to WCQ might determine his spot

a little gold cup happy?

these were the guys that got to play in this tournament because they are basically b-team players. you are implying that other guys that have been ahead on depth chart (such as kljestan and edu) would not have performed as well - which is kind of lame.

besides donovan, no one really stood out.

you are joking about judging kljestan on one start, right?

kljestan actually produces against MUCH better competition in belgium and UCL than diskerud in VERY weak norwegian league. had a nice little sub appearance today - needs to do a lot more

corona seems to be a bit behind bedoya at this point

torres obviously is not a solution at LM, where he was playing until benched today

For mine I'm predicting brooks and johannsson are committed, but if they don't i have their replacements.

Goalkeepers: Howard, Guzan, Rimando

Defenders: Chandler, Lichaj, Cameron, Besler, Brooks, Gonzo/Goodson (really not sure which one of these two, but both are on roster if brooks isn't), F. Johnson, DaMarcus Beasley

Midfielders: Bradley, Jones, Kljestan, Beckerman (had holden before but I doubt it now)

Attacking Midfielders: Donovan, Zusi, Bedoya, Shea (shea has looked poor overall but his play style is a really nice bench sub and if he can regain form at stoke he is on, if not then corona)

Forwards: Dempsey, Altidore, E. Johnson, Johannsson (if not AJ then Gomez)

After bradley and jones I was really not sure on the center mids. Holden looks like he could be out for awhile again, hard to evaluate edu. I honestly have no idea what happens there.

Hard thing to predict especially considering there is an entire season of European soccer to go as well as the rest of the 2013 MLS and the first few months of the 2014 MLS season as well as Liga MX. Injuries may happen.

Right now this would be my 23 man roster with of course Brooks and Johannsson playing for the US:

GK: Rimando, Guzan, Howard

Defense: Chandler, Dolo, Fabian, DMB, Gonzo, Goodson, Brooks, Besler

Cm's: Diskerud, Bradley, Jones, Cameron, Corona

Attackers: Altidore, Deuce, Lando, Zusi, Johannsson, Shea, EJ

Versatility all over the place.

Fabian can play LB, LW, RW

Cameron can play CB, CM, RB

Beasley can play LB, LW

Lando can play RW, LW, CAM, Striker

Deuce can play LW, RW, Striker

Corona: CAM, LW, RW, CM

You get the jist.

This would be my 23 right now, but of course things can change and probably will change.

I'm kind of new to soccer so forgive me if this is naive why isn't Brad Evan's on these lists? He played ever minute of the friendly against Germany and all three WC Qualifying matches in June at Right back.

He scored the winning goal against Jamaca and has versatility as he plays midfield for the sounders.

Cheers.

Because there are far more talented footballers when everyone is healthy, add in another year of young guys getting games and he will be pushed out of the 23.

You know what?

I really like that 23. Well done.

My only concern is that there isn't a left footed guy in the midfield. That's important when you want to get crosses from the left side. I think Torres could make it over Corona on your list.

@ Bshredder and jtsccr12 - like the 23, but I'd replace Bedoya with Shea. Shea is that left footer that we need on the wing, and every game he plays he seems to get better and more comfortable. Since WC qualification is almost a foregone conclusion, he should start all of the matches between now and next summer that his club will release him for.

Shea got (potentially) two more World Cups ahead of him after 2014 and should get as much XP as he can.

Wouldn't it be more useful to list Cameron as a CB and then only bring 4 CBS instead of 5? Obviously Cameron could still play CM if necessary and you can bring another attacking option.

Gk: Howard, Guzan, Rimando.

Def: Besler, Brooks, Gonzalez, Cameron, Chandler, F.Johnson, Beasley

Mid: Jones, Bradley, Beckerman, Diskerud, Zusi, Corona, Shea, Bedoya

Attack: Donovan, Dempsey, Altidore, E.Johnson, Johansson

Didn't include Dolo, just think he'll age quicker and quicker, injury doesn't hep.
Plus Cameron can play both RB and CB. Can't believe I'm including Beckerman, but he impressed at gold cup.
