Pretty sure PSV was interested in buying Jozy, but instead of jumping up to a better team in Holland he listened to the talking heads who said he had nothing more to accomplish in Holland which was just ridiculous. he would have benefited himself by staying in Holland for a couple more seasons with a bigger team.

That's why I try not say Johannsson should leave after having one good year. AJ would benefit from playing in Holland a few more seasons as well. My hope is that a team like Ajax comes in for him after the WC. But as always I get that these guys have limited careers, so if a very good Bundesliga or EPL team comes in for AJ after the WC then I would understand him leaving Holland. IMO I think Johannsson would do really well under Martinez at Everton, especially if Everton doesn't sign Lukaku to a permanent deal.

As a Blue, I have thought this for quite some time. I think that if we can secure CL football, we have a good chance to sign Lukaku in the off-season. But if we were to finish 5th or 6th, we could use some of that Europa League money to secure a player like AJ.

In all competitions for Sunderland this season, Jozy has played 37 matches and scored 2 goals on 48 shots. He has also assisted on 5 goals, which, believe it or not, ties him for the team lead with Adam Johnson.

Steven Fletcher played 25 matches, scored 3 on 37 shots, and assisted on none.

Connor Wickham has played 13 matches, scored 2 on 20 shots, and assisted on none.

Ignacio Scocco has played 8 matches, scored 0 on 5 shots, and assisted on none.

None of these strikers are going to win the golden boot. That said, Jozy shouldn't be made a scapegoat. Sunderland is a bad team, with poor service and midfielders who shoot more than the forwards. It would be unreasonable to expect a forward on this team to light the league on fire.

At the same time, as a casual observer, it's my opinion that he could improve a few things: his work ethic (specifically pressuring defenders and winning the ball back - although admittedly pressing has to be done as a team to work), his first touch and hold up play, and his movement without the ball. (Also, neither here nor there, but for a guy that announcers love to describe as "big" and "athletic" I can't remember the last time I saw him score a header.)

All great points. He's had a bad season. Real good games mixed in with mostly bad games. The recent Liverpool game where he started summed up his season. Few good moments mixed in with dumb fouls, bad hold up play, and not getting into good positions. But this is just a real bad team. They lost to Everton on a hilariously bad Wes Brown own goal. Which also summed up their year. Garbage defending and no midfield presence besides Cattermoles hiked up shorts. He's gonna have to sort his club situation after the WC and it's kind of funny seeing the Jozy haters on other sites kick him while he's down. It's almost like they don't realize how garbage this team is.

Yep looks like Jozy will strictly be a mop up duty Striker in the second half from here on out. Have to say Wickham does work a bit harder than Jozy does. No way Jozy makes that 60 yard run like Wickham did today for his second goal.

I have seen plenty of times Jozy jogging back to his striker spot this year for Sunderland.

jozy was never known to have high work rates. If he would do that then he would performance alot more than when he is just jogging. Still sunderland fault as much as Jozy that he hasnt done well.

I think his spot on the plane is pretty cemented (barring injury, of course) but I think - like most everyone else - his spot as a starter is far from guaranteed. He better bring his A game to the pre-WC camp and friendlies.

Agreed. No chance Jozy even starts making that run. Fantastic effort by Wickham. Kid looks good. Jozy is done. Mannone has had a good season but dude should be sat for a match for that final error. As a former keeper I feel his pain. Ugh.

Wow Jozy just won the PK and Borini buried the penalty. Huge for Sunderland as they're now up 2-1 over Chelsea with 8 mins to play.

I wish Jozy would have taken the penalty but any hope of Sunderland avoiding relegation rests on the penalty that Jozy drew.
