Didn't see much from Fletcher today to tell you the truth. With Altidore starting Sunderland are much stronger in possession.

I expect Altidore to get the start on Saturday.

Hearing Fletcher is a target for Hull, but I can't see that happening unless Gus is bringing in another one or two. With the on-again-off-again injuries and illness, I could see how Gus might be getting a little frustrated.

Selling Fletcher would be a good move IMO. There isn't much room for both Fletcher and Altidore on the pitch. Altidore is younger and arguably better. I would look at that as a sign of trust that Poyet has in Jozy. Plus they could use the money to strengthen the other positions they're lacking.

With a Sunderland win over Cardiff tomorrow, the bottom of the table looks a bit different.

I think Sunderland would be unwise to sell Fletcher. The physical nature of the Prem and cup competitions almost forces a squad to have quality depth at most if not all positions

Good point, but Gus could have a few young replacements waiting in the wings that we don't know about. I think it's a good move for Fletcher, gets back under Bruce and will probably get a shot in the arm from the club, and vice versa.

Poyet should definitely get rid of Fletcher. They just bought Altidore this summer and he is the same type of player: there is no room for both of them on the field at the same time. Might as well sell Fletcher, who is a proven Premier League player and use that money to buy a half-decent midfielder.

If this happens it'd be great for Jozy...he'd be an unquestioned starter.

Nope. Mikael Mandron is the best forward they have right now in the U21s and he isn't ready for the PL. They need to keep both, the only option would be to sell Fletcher and play Borini down the middle.

I meant in terms of possible transfer targets, rather than through their academy.

I've been thinking about Borini a lot, Gus seems to be keen on him as he's gotten much more playing time since PDC was relieved of his duties. His propensity to drift wide and Jozy's ability to occupy two defenders, it seems like it would be a no-brainer to play them together with Borini as a withdrawn/second striker.

How about purchasing the services of Duane Holmes and put him in midfield? Couldn't do any worse than the clowns they have right now.

Not a bad idea, but he's still an untested prospect at this point. The perfect move, for me, would have been pipping West Ham to the signing of Scottie Parker. He's got the experience and gravitas to command respect and guide younger players, and still has the wheels and skill to justify that respect.

That's Borini's preferred role, sitting just underneath the CF. The only thing with doing that, they don't have a dynamic enough MF to do that. Ki needs to play the 8, if they play Borini underneath, they would need a Wanyama type DM, someone very physical and can cover a lot of ground quickly.

Major Opportunity for Sunderland to get out of the cellar and bottom 3. Another chance for Jozy to state a claim of why he should keep starting over Fetcher after his (Fetcher) poor game on Thursday.

Altidore will never get an easier opportunity in his life like that. Wow it was harder to miss than to make.
