While many fans wailed and gnashed their teeth about the 2011 U-20 WC team not qualifying for the U-20 WC tournament which I think it was mostly due to overconfidence; it may go down as one of the most productive player cycles up to this point. The USMNT now and going into the 2018 and 2022 WC cycles will be buoyed by quite a bit of the players from that cycle and age group. Lets take a look at these players.

GK: Cody Cropper(South Hampton). He was a back-up, but even then most people wanted him to start over Zack MacMath in the qualifying tourney. Zack Macmath(Union), he could make certain friendly rosters in the future.

Defense: Really the only defenders I see making the jump to full USMNT is Greg Garza(Tijuana), Amobi Okugo(Union), and Kofie Sarkodie(Houston).

Middies: Lletget( West Ham), Perry Kitchen( DC United), Hoyos( in that age group, OFI Crete, Greece), Kellyn Rowe( New England), Powers( Rapids)

Attackers: Agudelo(New England), Wood( 1860 Munich), Boyd(Rapid Vienna), Gyau(Hoffenheim), Doyle(Derby County/DC United), Gatt( Molde)

It's amazing to think that conceivably you could see most of these guys in the USMNT fold in the 2018 and 2022 WC cycles, and in Agudelo, Boyd, Gatt, and Gyau's case they have all already been called up to senior national team camps.

Really was a productive cycle, and it was a shame that they failed to make the 2011 U-20 WC( I think they would of had a chance to go far in the tournament), but this just shows you, that with youth, not making the WC necessarily does not mean that a certain U-20 cycle was a failure after all.

They will have some big shoes to fill. By comparison these are the guys with Senior MNT Caps. That 2001 squad was insane.

I remember the run in 2003, f**king Rongen pulled Convey in something like the 80th minute of the quarterfinals and it all went to hell from there. Mascherano scored in the 94th minute to tie it at 1 and then Argentina beat us in on a stoppage time PK.
