But you want to take out an attacking mid for a central mid. That doesnt work with this team. You have to include either Dempsey or Donovan as the CAM, and then the 2 CMs behind them. And again, our fullbacks have been getting into the attack just fine in the 4-2-3-1.

How did I answer my own question? Corona played RW against ES and we played more of a ground game and attacked the middle of the field, which suits Corona. Against Honduras, Klinsmann wanted to attack the wings with speed and some more power, which is why he started Bedoya. Either way, we played a 4-2-3-1.

couple problems with current set-up:
1) dempsey/donovan conundrum - most people seem to feel that LD, not dempsey, should play the central role. guess what? probably not going to happen. JK has played dempsey, HIS CAPTAIN, in that spot since day one. why? because that is dempseys best spot also.

so right there something has got to give. most likely LD shifts out wide, because although he may be better centrally than dempsey he is more capable wide AND because dempsey has that spot locked down

2) zusi (corona / bedoya) - i think there is a question as to how effective zusi will be against stronger competition. he is an above average MLS player, thats it. and he is tweener. he is not really true winger and has very modest 1v1 skills. just wonder how helpful he will be. if its not zusi then i would essentially make same argument about corona and bedoya

i think you can get more talent on the field AND accommodate dempsey and donovan better by shifting tactics slightly

just saying it could be worth a look

Carlisle has a long article on this. While its not an opinion piece and Carlisle is reporting on the options that are out there, some of what is said in the article is asinine.

I have an issue with the logic that says Landon needs to be re-integrated slowly and you don't mess with the A team lineup because they have a good thing going. You don't bring in a guy who has scored 5 goals and 7 assists because you think it will hurt chemistry? Seems like something that the parents of whichever player loses his starting spot to LD would argue.

I also find it the analogy that "Donovan deserves some credit for having aced this particular exam, even if it was of the open book variety" to be incredibly stupid. You cannot discredit Donovan for getting his results against crap teams like Honduras and Costa Rica while simultaneously arguing not to change the A-team lineup because they have gotten such good results against quality teams like Honduras and Costa Rica. That's an oxymoron.

Are there some key players missing from the Gold Cup? Sure, but really only Mexico and the US are drastically different from their A-teams.

such a load of BS
- first, give me a break with his "self-imposed sabbatical". the guy took a couple months off to relax and travel and recharge his batteries. it really was never much of an issue and now it is a complete non-issue.

- second - team chemistry? JK has used 8 different players in last 19 games at LM. the most appearances in that position in that time is torres with 5 starts on the left - 4 in gold cup and 1 before the hex started, (ZERO in the hex)

EJ is next with 4 starts at LM, but EVERYBODY knows he is a forward, not a LM

if all the attacking positions on the field were locked down you MIGHT have a case, but that is FAR from the case

but i will not be surprised to see JK playing more mind games in september

If the wc started next month I think the usa starting lineup would look something like this.

Altidore
F.Johnson..Duece..Lando
...Bradley......Jones
Beasley..Besler..Gonzo...Chandler
.............Howard.........

But here is an interesting scenario. Jk has created a competitive atmosphere amongst the team. No ones starting position is truly secured on this team, you must receive regular playing time with your club and you must play well. I think jk will stick to his word no matter the player.

Now where this gets interesting is when you look at Clinton dempsey's position with Spurs and Freddy adu's at Bahia. Now mind you I'm not a Freddy supporter, in fact I have found him to be a giant disappointment, tons of skill and potential, and has done nothing with it. With dueces up coming season his starting position is not guaranteed potentially very limited club playing time we could see a drop off in his play with the usmnt. On the other hand I get the feeling Freddy adu is being set up to have a with Bahia. Now we all know how skilled adu is, if starts to live up to his expectstions, clints starting cam position could be in jeopardy.

.

Klinsmann only sometimes keeps his word. Edu, Goodson, Parkhurst and Shea have all seen playing time with the MNT despite not playing for their clubs. I think only an injury or a string of terrible performances for the MNT could displace Clint from the starting lineup.

As it gets closer to the world cup I see jk sticking close to his word. Klinsmann us a true motivater, in years past he may have played players to get them back in shape or encourage them to work hard to get more club minutes. As we approach Brazil players like education and Williams and shea will not be called in unless they are doing well for there club. Having said that I don't think duece will lose his starting position but I hope some one comes along to push him. If anybody I predict it will be adu.
