So CONCACAF and CONMEBOL are set to announce something historic on Thursday. Presumably it will be Copa America joint tournament in the US in 2016. Should be interesting if FIFA declares it an official FIFA tournament, meaning clubs abroad and domestically will have to let perspective players participate.

Jurgen will have some interesting decisions to make that summer on player personnel:

1. WC qualifying starts that summer. This is the #1 priority that summer.

2. Olympic soccer. If the US qualifies which talented U-23 players are sent to the Olympics and which talented U-23 players that are already in the USMNT are kept for the Copa America.

3. Copa America may be the tournament that Darlington Nagbe could announce himself on the world stage.

All I know is that 2016 can't get here fast enough now.

Will be interesting to see if there's any age restrictions. In recent history no conmebol teams have been guests and had to send u23 teams. Wonder if that'll be the case again. Will be a good thing regardless but lots of questions that we probably won't no the answer until the next year or so.

No there won't be age restrictions. And yes it will be a FIFA tournament. Maybe USA can win their first FIFA tournament ever. As the other 4 concacaf teams I think it will be Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama/Jamaica. I'm planning to travel to all USA games and hopefully they choose big stadiums 50k plus.

So just for shits and giggles, I did a random draw.

Top 4 seeds: Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay.

Other 4 seeds from CONCACAF besides US and MX: Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Jamaica

Pot 1: Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay
Pot 2: US, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador
Pot 3: Costa Rica, Venezuela, Peru, Honduras
Pot 4: Jamaica, Panama, Paraguay, Bolivia

Group A
Brazil
US
Costa Rica
Jamiaca

Group B
Argentina
Mexico
Venezuela
Panama

Group C
Colombia
Ecuador
Honduras
Bolivia

Group D
Uruguay
Chile
Peru
Paraguay

Not perfect. Group A got overloaded with 3 CONCACAF teams. Group D was all CONMEBOL teams.

Maybe put the other 4 CONCACAF teams in Pot 4
And Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Venezuela to Pot 3

Pot 1: Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay
Pot 2: US, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador
Pot 3: Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia, Paraguay
Pot 4: Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama

Group A
Brazil
Chile
Paraguay
Jamaica

Group B
Argentina
Mexico
Peru
Panama

Group C
Colombia
US
Venezuela
Honduras

Group D
Uruguay
Ecuador
Bolivia
Costa Rica

Seems like that draw was way more balanced than the first one.

What do you guys think?

Yes the latter. There shouldn't be any way that 3 CONCACAF teams end up in a group together. I also like the idea of ensuring that US and Mexico don't end up in the same group.

This likely means that we'll face more difficult teams but as a fan I want to see us test ourselves against competition that we don't usually face, especially in meaningful games.

I would be happy to face Mexico in the knockout stage though, may even consider bringing Cobi Jones out of retirement.

If it is all real players, I'm almost as excited as I am about the World Cup. Teaming up with CONMEBOL is the best decision CONCACAF has made. Perhaps the spots after US, Mexico, Honduras, and Costa Rica are determined by the 2015 Gold Cup, giving all the teams, i.e. Jamaica, Canada, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador a chance to qualify.

Great news, and a good boost for the USMNT program as a whole.

With US hosting my guess they will be one of the top seeds, and possibly Mexico.

Top 4 seeds: Brazil, US, Argentina, Mexico

Brazil, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Peru

US, Honduras, Colombia, Venezuela

Argentina, Ecuador, Jamaica, Bolivia

Mexico, Uruguay, Panama, Chile

Don't be at all surprised that both US and Mexico are top seeds.

A few points from the press conference.

Not yet on A FIFA date but they're working towards that.

Gonna be held from June 3rd to June 26th. Euro 2016 will be held from June 10th to July 10th.

Venues will be named soon.

The way to early projected 23 man USMNT Copa America roster:

GK: Johnson, Guzan, Howard

Defense: Chandler, Cameron, Hedges, Besler, Ream, Gonzo, Klute, Fabian

CM's: Bradley, Williams, Kitchen, Diskerud

Attackers: Zardes, AJ, Agudelo, Boyd, Altidore, Gyau, Zusi, Nagbe

Will a Dempsey still be in the picture in 2016? Hard to know right now, so I went without Dempsey.

Donovan IMO will retire from the USMNT after the 2014 WC. His body is starting to break down with recurring knee problems, so I think he decides to just focus on a few more years of Club soccer.

Will Holden be back? doubtful at this time.

Bradley the captain.

Remember the Olympics is happening the same summer, so expect most of the young guys playing on that team e.g. Green, Arriola, Junior Flores, Rubio Rubin, EPB, Spencer, Mario Rodriguez, Will Trapp, Luis Gil, Shawn Parker, Brooks, Holmes etc...

If they don't qualify for the Olympics, then Klinsmann's roster selection could get really interesting

Other interesting released facts are the CONCACAF teams will be USA, Mexico, 2014 Carribean Cup Champ, 2014 Central America Cup Champ, and 2 2015 Gold Cup Semi Finalists. USA, Mex, and Central America Champ are usually also semi finalists so not sure what they'll do to get an additional extra team but there's something.

DC/Baltimore and Chicago are two markets I think they'll tap into. I would like to see Seattle, I think that they deserve it.
