Really there is not one assured RB or LB in the player pool right now. The closest player to being a sure bet is probably Dolo.

One foot in the door at RB:

Chandler

Contenders:

Lichaj
Parkhurst
Beltran
Evans
Yedlin
Wynn
Farrell

One foot in the door for Lb's:

Fabian: I see him moving to winger though.
Beasley

Contenders:

Lichaj
Castillo
Morrow

Possible LB contenders:

Ream
Klute

To be honest I think the Rb's and LB's chosen will be:

Rb: Dolo, Chandler
LB: Beasley, Lichaj, With Fabian as an option for LB if needed from winger.

Now I can give my full 23 man roster prediction/projection right now for the WC:

Gk: Rimando, Guzan, Howard
Defense: Dolo, Chandler, Beasley, Lichaj, Goodson, Gonzo, Besler, Brooks
CM's: Holden, Cameron, Bradley, Jones
RAM's/LAM's: Lando, Deuce, Zusi, Fabian
FWDS: Jozy, EJ, Agudelo, Gomez

Alternates: GK: Sean John, Defense: Orozco, Boca, Parkhurst CM's: Kljestan, Williams RAM's/LAM's: Shea, Pontius, Corona, FWDS: Wood, Wooten

As always things can and will probably change in the next 11 months. Should be interesting to see how close I get to the actual roster next June.

There's no way I would consider Chandler as having one foot in the door at this point. Dolo, yes depending on how he recovers from his injury but it's wide open after that.

Look at how JK has punished Landon for skipping out on the national team and Landon is a proven commodity and the best player in US history. Chandler has the talent to be a good RB and will possibly end up on the World Cup squad but he has a lot of work to do to redeem himself for always skipping out on the team. The best thing going for him is how weak we are at the RB position. If we had any depth at all I think the Chandler ship would have sailed a while ago.

Wouldn't it be more useful if you put Cameron as a defender on the roster and then maybe took another attacking option and left off one of goodson or brooks? If needed Cameron could still play CM obviously but now we would have another attacker instead of five guys who's preferred position is CB.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Lando plays a position of strength (if he considered LD at winger then not but JK clearly sees LD as a central attacker) while RB is a weakness (Evans seriously?!?) Also age plays some part as its easier to "give up"/play hardball with a 31 year old rather than a 21 year old

I just dont see Dolo making it. I dont think his body can sustain the grind of a full season anymore or to be counted on for the quick turnaround of games in a tournement. I think the d will be as follows:

LB: Fab, Beasley
RB: Chandler. Yedlin/Farrell.

As I stated earlier I think a winger is going to distinguish himself this year and allow Fab to slide back into the LB slot. I also think on of the young MLSers will work his way into the picture starting with the jan camp and solidify it with the may friendlies, just not sure which one yet as JK hasnt shown a preference towards either of them yet

Its clear as day that Landon should line up on the left wing, meaning Fabian will be our LB come Brazil. Why would you want to go into the WC with any questions marks. You can't count on Beasley at that level. As a backup, fine, but no way should he start. Believe me, I'd love to have Fabian on the left and Donovan on the right, but I need to feel comfortable with my defense first.

RB is cake, Chandler and Dolo. Not sure why everybody is hating on Chandler. Wasnt he injured at the end of the season? And even if he wasnt, we need to grow up and understand you take the best players to the World Cup. There's no time to teach lessons, play games, or hold grudges.

as of now:

1) chandler - i disagree, i think he is an absolute lock. far too much of an asset for JK to think twice. if he played another position there might be a problem, but it is fairly easy to integrate an OB quickly
2) fabian
3) dolo
4) beasley

out
5) evans
6) (cameron)
7) parkhurst
8) castillo
9) beltran

everyone else has a lot of ground to make up and not all that much time to do it. however, with evans at #5 definitely a serious opening for someone to step up

i tend to agree with sentiment about fabian / beasley (and also chandler / dolo) but i also have to admit that i think beasley looks better and better every time out at LB. i think if beasley looks strong through Gold Cup final, it will become pretty hard to argue with the idea of beasley as a starting LB.

and who knows, maybe puebla is watching and pushes him back to LB this season,,,

What about Kofi Sarkodie? He has been playing well for the Dynamo.

Gk: Howard, Guzan, #3 youth or veteran depending on JK, matters little

Defense: Chandler, Beasley, Lichaj, Brooks, Gonzo, Besler, Lichaj, Goodson

CM's: MB, JJones, Holden, Cameron

RAM's/LAM's: LD, Dempsey, Zusi, Shea, Corona, F Johnson

FWDS: Jozy, EJ, A Johanson,

Did this in little time, more for discussion than anything.

Defense, could see one less CD taken due to Cameron stepping back there if necessary. Think 3 true forwards is enough due to Dempsey and LD being available. F Johnson/DMB can switch positions at any time if necessary.

Hope Agudelo gets his chance once injury free again.
Hope Wood tears it up this season.
Hope A Johanson is called in to train with us in a friendly soon.
Personally thing Cherundelo won't make it due to injuries slowing him down.
Hope Lichaj starts this season and plays well.

You have to look at who we are playing. This is a weak Gold Cup. Beasley isnt exactly in his prime either. He's getting by nicely, but I dont trust him against better teams just yet.

I need to have 100% faith that going into game 1 of the World Cup, I have my best player at each position. Fabian is far and away the best LB we have. Having Donovan in front of him is going to make our left side very strong.

Fixed, it seems Lichaj #2 was actually a 24th player, crazy stuff.

GK: Howard, Guzan, Rimando
Def: Gonzalez, Besler, MOF, Chandler, Dolo, Fabian, Beasley
CM: Bradley, Jones, Cameron, Holden, Diskerud
AM: Donovan, Demspey, Zusi, Shea, Bedoya
FW: Jozy, Agudelo, EJ

If guys havent decided on the US yet, im not worried about them.

I took out one CB because I think we needed another CM that is a bit more attack minded, that being Diskerud. Cameron can always cover if needed.

The CM pairing is what will make or break us in Brazil. Klinsmann has to find the right combination. I dont envy him. I dont think its Bradley/Jones. Im leaning towards Bradley/Cameron right now.

--------Jozy-------
Donovan--Demps---Zusi
-----Bradley-Cameron--
Johnson-Besler-Gonzo-Chandler
-------Howard--------

I feel pretty damn good with this lineup.
