Besler and Gonzalez are in for sure since defense is probably our weakest option. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Brad Evans called in because neither Parkhurst or Beltran have done anything to lock down the RB spot plus Evans is versatile and can play other positions. And then Zusi since we are clearly trying to win this competition. I would prefer Pontius instead of Evans but I doubt it will happen.

For who they replace, besler and gonzalez could be orozco and onyewu or just one of them and then one of the RBs if evans is added. Evans and Zusi could replace a lot of people, possibly Diskerud if Rosenborg wants him back for Europa, Shea since he really should be with Stoke, or maybe McInerney since it doesn't look like he is ever going to play, although it was still a good experience for him to be with the national team at such a young age.

Blaise, I think you're right. Brek was originally on the 35 man roster and when Gatt went down Brek was called into the 23 man camp and Pontius was called up as Gatt's actual replacement in the 35 man roster. I forgot about this in my original post, I'll add Pontius now.

Is there a reason McInerney isn't playing besides the depth chart? Thought maybe I heard he picked up a knock?

Of the defenders, it's hard to choose. Gooch has made the clearer mistakes but has also made some great plays. Goodson and Orozco haven't done anything spectacular defensively but are big on set pieces in the offensive third. If it's me, I'd scratch Goodson - may SJ wants to bring him in sooner than later, I don't know. Gooch has something to prove and Orozco may be our best performing CB so far.

Midfield: hope Mixx doesn't go, but if he does, I think we can be creative with his spot. Between Torres, Holden and Beckerman, we have the central midfield locked up. Zusi would be huge though if he could make it.

Forwards: Wondo, duh. Herc, sure, why not. I'd like to see Bruin more and Jack Mack if my first statement can be ignored. Wish Wood was an real option - kid could be soooo dangerous in this tournament.

JK said this is JackMac's first camp with the national team and his primary focus is getting him acclimated with the Nats and the speed at which he wants the team to play, which is understandable because there is a jump between the levels of MLS and international.

I dont think there will a lot of replacements if any. A defender would be nice in the latter stages. Would like to see Pontius. I think Brek will probably leave after tomorrow's game

My guess is pontius for brek since Brek loses the starting spot and unless he absoloutley wows us as a substitution he should go back to england and focus on stoke city at the moment. A surprise choice klinsmann might pull could be feilhaber due to his good form the past couple games along with the fact that diskerud has upcoming Europa games. Other options possibly could be goalkeeper swap since klinsmann does like to rotate goalkeepers.

Something people are forgetting is that klinsmann promised clubs in mls that players who participated in the world cup qualifiers would not be called up for the gold cup. Which means a lot of options being pitched around are unlikely to happen unless klinsmann changes his mind which wouldnt suprise me. Bocanegra also could be picked a suprise but possible call up still hasnt played for chivas. Chivas might be okay with waiting around 2 weeks to get boca back.

So possible choices if klinsmann decides not to call up mls players used in WCQ's.

Pontius for shea, Hall for Hamid, Feilhaber for Diskerud , Bocanegra for Goodson/onyewu depending on who starts tomorrow, and Gordon 0.0001 percent chance of that happening switching with mcinerney or bruin.

If klinsi changes his mind

INFINITE CHOICES

Klinsy agreed with MLS that he wouldnt call up WCQ guys for the group stage. Beig available for the knockout rounds was the compromise so guys like Zusi, Besler, Omar, could defintiely be brought in

Yeah he just told team no group stage... Besler and Gonzo will 100% be called in.. We want to win, we need to win, and if they're going to be the pairing next summer then the more meaningful games they play together the better.

Though I'll say I don't think its necessary to get Gonzo and Besler in. I've been really impressed by Orozco. And I was not the biggest fan but he has looked good ever since he got playing time at Puebla. He is a set piece wizard and his defense has been solid all around.

With the Guinness Challenge Cup on the horizon, I would not recall Gonzo and would let him have the experience of playing in that tournament.

Personally, I would make these changes...Zusi in for Shea and Hall in for Hamid or Johnson.

Nothing against Shea or the way he has played, but I think he needs to train with his club team since this is an important season for him to try and establish himself in the first team reckoning. I would be tempted to drop Holden to give him more time to train with his club as well, but Feilhaber is not as good.

I would be tempted to bring in Besler for Goodson, but I think it best to try and develop our depth.

Herc tweeted that he misses the team already. I didn't expect him to be replaced.

I would expect that EJ will be his replacement but we'll have to see.

Agreed on all fronts, Shea needs to be back with Stoke to show MH he can play and should be in the 18 every week.

With the Guinness Challenge Cup on the horizon

The best thing about the GICC is no liga mx teams, im tired of them always using our league and infrastructure to promote their shit.

I would only swap Pontius for Shea and it would be cool to call up B wood

3 replacments I would like to see.

EJ for Gomez
Pontius for Shea
Besler for Gooch

I wouldn't use 4. There is no need.
