With Roberto Martinez trying to put his stamp on Everton, and his signing of a younger keeper in Joel Robles who is Martinez' boy; what is the percentage of Howard losing his starting role?

I think Howard is at a 50 percent chance of losing his starting role this season. Martinez has already issued a statement that Howard will be fighting for his #1 spot.

My percentage that Guzan is the starting Keeper in the 2014 WC right now is at 40 percent, and will likely rise as the season goes on.

I think you underestimate Howard a bit. Last year he had a shitty first half of the season, started getting alot of flak and then pretty much played lights out during the second half. IIRC he was ninth in clean sheets last year(8th a year before that and 10th before that). I think actually knowing that he has some real competition is going to help him.

I think robles could eventually take Howard's place as everton #1 but not this season. Martinez needs to get off to a good start and I think he will go with the experienced Howard. I also feel that if this Robles kid was that good Athletico Madrid would've never let him go knowing that they're not going to keep Courtois forever.

50% is rather high. Martinez did not say that the job was up for grabs. He simply said it was important to have another keeper of a sufficient quality such that he could push Tim at the position.

"He is someone who is going to give us great protection and fight with Tim Howard for the goalkeeping position and push him all the way."

I'm thinking no higher than 20%. He specifically mentioned protection (i.e. depth) at the position and fostering more competition. For me that reads as Timmy isn't going anywhere just yet but Martinez doesn't want him to get too comfortable. He's been the undisputed #1 for 7+ years so it's understandable why he might take that type of action.

I dont think he'll lose his spot anytime soon. Everton was looked at last season as a team pushing towards Europe. I think Howard was and is a big part of that. If they're gonna push again, Howard is a leader and still has the skills to play well.

Plus I dont think Guzan will take Timmy's spot until after the WC.

It's good to have Guzan as a solid alternative option in the event that Timmy actually loses his starting spot. The GK position is one that I'm not worried about. Worst case scenario I'm sure that Timmy could find a team to take him out on loan in January.

I think he's bringing him in to learn from Howard, who plays a similar game to another Martinez fave, Ali El Habsi, but is more consistent. I don't see Howard losing that spot for at least a couple of years while Robles will probably go out on loan one year and will be 2nd fiddle the other, getting the start with league cup/lower opposition FA cup matches, and potential Europa league matches.

No offense @2Tone but this is kind of a dumb question. Howard is not just one of the best in EPL but in the world. IF Martinez started replacing players like Howard he'll be going the way of Wigan with Everton. I agree with @recycledhumans, I think bringing in Robles is similar situation when Villa brought in Guzan to learn from Freidel. That was good Guzan, Freidel and Villa. It should be same for Everton as far as GK's go..
