Cant wait til Seattle comes to LA ima be there no doubt.... Cant wait.... Great move by Mls.... Donovan needs a massive contract it will be a disgrace if he doesnt get at lest a 60-70 million $ contract... America offered a ridiculous amount which was disclosed last year, im hearing in the 105 million $ range for 6 yrs.. A source mentioned.. narcs/dangerous..

New wage numbers for Dempsey are $41 million over 4 years

Staggering

Does this include any guaranteed marketing money to make the figure sound bigger similar to Beckham's $100m contract that really cost the Galaxy something like $5m a season?

Yeah, Dempsey not one of our 2 best players. Top 5, sure.

I don't know what you guys are smoking, Dempsey is absolutely in our top 2 best field players (let's leave Howard aside because its difficult to compare). Jozy lit up at AZ and has finally gotten hot, Landon is the greatest of all time and owned the Gold Cup but Clint has been doing it for both club and country for the past two years.

I don't see any scenario where he's not in the top 2 USMNT players. You can argue MB, Landon, Jozy and even Howard but Clint is going to be either our best or number 2 player in all situations.

- Smart move financially for Dempsey. He's 31. Now is the time to cash in.
- Smart move by Seattle and MLS. It's all about filling the seats and selling tickets, not to mention TV ratings. Dempsey brings more value than an aging foreigner looking for a paycheck.
- MLS shows it is financially viable. Any team in any league could've bid for Dempsey's services. They could afford to do so, especially with wealthy owners in Seattle.
- Dempsey puts in 2 months in MLS, and can then choose any loan offers than come from EPL. It puts him in control. I'm betting he goes on loan in the winter to a club needing a skilled attacker.
- Like Harkes, Reyna and McBride, Dempsey blazed a trail for future US players who want to try to succeed in Europe. Who's next? Gonzales?

Ha, Yedlin tweets a photo of his #2 jersey being held hostage from Dempsey.

EJ + Dempsey + Yedlin... believe I will be doing my best to watch all of their matches from now on.

That's great. And I think you're spot on. Seattle is already fun to watch. Probably will watch a lot more of them too.

According to some Spurs fans losing dempsey is gonna be a bigger hit than what people think. Alot of new players in club new to EPL will take time to adjust and will definitely suffer at least first half of the season. Seems like some spur fans are realizing that dempsey was a relevant team player. Too late for them now.

this is a huge mistake made by Dempsey! why the hell would he come to the MLS?! huge drop in competiveness! should have stayed in Europe at least until after the world cup....dude will frop in form just like Shevchenko when he went back tonyhe Ukraine. ...sad to see our two best players playing in a average league.

also a dumb ass move by Seattle! 41 million dollars for Dempsey?!?! do you realize what others players they could have bought with that money!! foolish

So sick of all this negativity towards Dempsey. Dempsey can go on loan in January if he decides it's necessary prior to the WC. Dempsey has pushed himself his entire career to be the best player he can be. A move to Seattle 1 yr prior to the WC does not all of a sudden make me question Dempsey. He will get all the playing time he needs in Seattle and can go on loan if he feels he's dropping in form in the MLS.

ok soo going to europe for a couple of months is going to do him some good? tell me what astonishing players play in this league that will help dempsey stay at his game? You need your top guys playing in a competitve league, especially to keep him from dipping in form.... He will continue to get playing time but at what cost? he wont be pressured as he would be in Europe for a position.

Sorry but I won't come close to joining the bash Dempsey party... not going to happen.

Making a guess, then bashing Dempsey is something I try to avoid.

Am I shocked at his decision? Absolutely, but I won't doubt him for it.

I mean the league isn't the shits. It's not great but ppl are acting like he is playing some pickup soccer on the weekends. Any league can be competitive and MLS is definitely a competitive league. The talent level isn't the highest but its a competitive league week in and week out. The guy will be just fine and he is home in the states. I am excited to see that some of our top footballers will be playing right here in our own domestic league.

Lets not forget our nations most prolific scorer and assist man has made his career in the MLS. Quit freaking out guys. MLS has something to offer this guy. He'll be in form during the World Cup and he will most definitely go on loan in Europe. Maybe even a Fulham loan? (Fingers crossed)

Why the bash against MLS. I agree its not a EPL level League but its not like dempsey level will drop. He has to much experience and will not affect his international duty. If anything he will get starting XI day in and out. Big players like Keane and Donovan play in mls and still produce more in their international squads and may u guys remember keane team is part of UEFA
