I may be mistaken, but I think I read somewhere that Deuce was offered as a make weight in Spurs attempt to sign Bentenke.

Read that headline on the BBC gossip page, but didn't see Dempsey on that list. The exact wording is: Tottenham are to offer Aston Villa the choice of Benoit Assou-Ekotto, 29, Scott Parker, 32, Jake Livermore, 23, or Tom Huddlestone, 26, along with 20m in exchange for their 22-year-old Belgium international striker Christian Benteke.

Completely off-topic but I think Scott Parker would be exactly what that young Villa squad needs.

Its being reported that Sunderland bought Huddelstone from Spurs. This means two things.

1) Doubt Sunderland looks to get Dempsy now as with Huddelstone, Magic Jack, & Jozy they have their new attackers. And Jozy should have good service all year and maybe approach 15-20 goals

2) Increases the chance that Dempsey stays put.

Ehh, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on both points. Huddlestone is a deep-lying midfielder who is better known for his range of passing than for his attacking prowess. A poor man's Michael Carrick, if you will. He and Dempsey are very different players and don't play the same position.

Dempsey is good at taking his chances (which is why he has scored so many goals in the EPL) but he's not a great player and he doesn't fit in well to Tottenham's system. He's kind of a tweener and not quite creative enough to be an attacking midfielder and a EPL top four team. He would've been a great fit for Everton under Moyes but I don't know about Martinez. I'm not surprised he's transfer listed. This could be really bad news for us though. If he's not starting and in form than we'll be in serious trouble at the WC. He's our best and most important field player (our only half-decent attacking midfielder besides Donovan).

Huddlestone is a DM not an attacker though.

SUnderland are making a lot of good moves though. Wouldn't be surprised to see them challenge for a Europa league spot. Looks like Jozy has made the right decision.

They certainly are building a larger squad to make a run at one of the domestic cups. Not sure there is enough quality to make a sustained run at a European place through their league standing.

I kinda doubt that...they have a lot of rebuilding to do, but they will definitely have a strong mid-table showing this year and will be able to challenge for those spots next year.

He still has to work hard and find the back of the net. Not saying that he won't. I hope he has a great year, but we are not that far out of the Jozy dark ages. The stage is set. Hopefully he can get to work and continue his success.

Didn't say that they would, but I wouldn't be surprised.

When 7 teams qualify for Europe saying they should be a strong mid table team is suggesting they'll be able to challenge for Europe. They obviously wont qualify for UCL but a Europa spot is doable (See Swansea)

While I concede your point that a good mid-table finish would put them in contention for the Europa league, I realistically don't see them breaking into the top 10 for any sustained period of time this season. I could be made to eat my words if they manage to pull in a couple more big signings, but I think this year is going to be feeling each other out and getting their style of play adjusted to PDC's vision and next year will be when they start their climb up the ranks.

That could mean anything. It's not like an agent's words are ever to be taken at face value.

I think Dempsey leaving would be a good thing. I don't think he really fits what AVB is trying to do. I'd rather him play for a worse team where he'd get guaranteed PT and would be in form (I don't think he was that good for Spurs, sure he took his scoring chances well but I don't think his presence really helped out the attack much). And maybe if he went to a new league he could learn something new.

Rumors swirling that Deuce might be making a return to MLS, with Seattle being touted as the favorites.
