Right, because Liga MX has never had any positive contributions to the MNT...

If the point is playing a player because they're young and we need to develop players for the 2018 cycle then that can start August 2014. If a young player is on the fringe of breaking through for the 2014 cycle then they should be getting time in this Gold Cup and any games after we qualify.

Except at that point it will be well the 2015 gold cup counts. Cant try them then. Then in 2016 against teams like Guatemala and A&B its they are WCQ and cant test young players in qualifiers. Then in 2017 its the hex again. At some point you have to mix in youth or you end up with Italy in South Africa.

To back up Blaise's point, this world cup is the perfect example. Look at Wondo. Brought in a player like him, and he performs as best as realistically possible. Did that change anything in the big picture? Does he have any more chance to unseat Jozy, or EJ? Are people going to be calling for him to be in the lineup vs Mexico or CR? Of course not. Now lets say Jack Mac, or Agudelo, or someone like that was in there and scored 6 goals. Perhaps that player gets a trasnfer request from Europe (which Wondo wont). Perhaps JK will give him some minutes with the A team.

You cant move past young and promising prospect without getting minutes

Or you just go out with the old in with the new after a major tournament like the Netherlands. We don't have anywhere near the depth that the Dutch have but they use the natural World Cup and Euro cycles as milestones for major roster overhauls.

Watching Everton/Valencia, and this has just confirmed for me how much I loathe Eric Wynalda as a commentator. He is truly awful. He's a homer who gets too emotional in his calls. I think Ian Darke and Stevie Mac is the best I've heard. Just give me anything but Wynalda.

Actually during the Gold Cup, Wynalda grew on me. He has his homer moments just like Twellman. But he's knowledgable and funny. He rubs people the wrong way though.

Wynalda is a moron. It's a shame how much he represents American soccer.

This isn't necessarily a journalist but the comments on MLS soccer are annoying as hell. There are just soo many MLS fanboys. I'm no MLS hater and follow and respect it (hence me reading there website) but the comments on there sometimes blow my mind. Anyone who says anything bad about MLS players they are slammed even if its a reasonable comment. You'll just have to read them to know what I'm talking about.

Gus Johnson is getting better, but I think his tone for 45 straight minutes is just annoying and wears on you. I think thats why he was good at calling basketball games commercials allowed you to hear something else. Now its all about his voice and it just takes away from the game instead of adding to it. Like others McManaman and Darke are a great pairing and my EPL viewing will be totally different, as I dont really like Arlo White as a commentator.

Gus is the bane of US soccer - way too excited all the time and not the most well-informed. Arlo's interesting but I'd easily give him the nod over Gus. I used to hate JP but he's been dethroned by Gus. I know I'm repeating what's been said several times, but Darke and Macca are easily the best.

Twellman, Wynalda & Cobi are homers - some people might appreciate a pro-US voice, but many also like a non-biased view of the game. They won't give it. Harkes was the same - I always thought that's why he was let go but I guess I was wrong. Makes you wonder if Ian gets annoyed by Taylor screaming everything red, white & blue in his ear all the time. No wonder Martin Tyler despises our commentating of the game. However, any foreign commentator is clearly being handed a fair amount of cash and respect when asked to come here, so maybe we can get someone on Fox, for example, who can do it right.

I dont mind Gus.. It's not his fault he doesn't know the game but if you think about how much better he was during the Gold Cup than when he got thrust into that ManU Real UCL game back in the spring He'll get better but Wynalda is an idiotttttttttttttttt so biased annoying it's hard for me to even remember he played soccer with how stupid he is

Love Arlo White, he's informed and and keeps you interested throughout the game with the tone of his voice.

He's gonna be good paired with Mustoe/Earle/others

John Strong and McBride are so sneakily underrated they are great together. Blows my mind that Gus was taken over him for Fox.

Don't hate Gus just think he should've started smaller than throwing him into the UCL fire. He's exceptional for basketball and football.

I was considering getting an mls account but their comments are more likely to be inflencued by clubs they support then anything else. Its a diffrent flow if your a mls fan of a team then you probably like mls.com if not you can probably find their comments slightly annoying sometimes. The articles on mls.com are good so I will read those but commenting is for here for me. Plus I am more supportive of the national team. I dont have a mls team near me I have a nasl team I support them but their priority is somewhat lower then most clubs. i respect mls fans for their support if not for their support mls wouldnt be what it is today but their website isnt for me. However if I ever get a mls team in my area I might change my tune.

Brian McBride is probably my favorite former national team analyst. Again I think a lot of Gus Johnsons problem comes with his harsh tones, in basketball and football it works, big play then stop and start again. Just like a lot of other announcers who switch to covering soccer, they are not used to talking that long, or keeping up with everything at once. With soccer you need to be able not only to convey excitement but restraint, his voice just annoys you after about 10 straight minutes. He has gotten so much better I just hope he gets tolerable before Fox gets the World Cup, they will give him every opportunity to. I should add I dont blame Gus he was just thrown out there.

Watching the LA- Cartagines game and I hear Dunseth. I like his analysis a lot and he's very informed but his voice is so droning. I like him though. Enjoy watching RSL games when he does it.
