I'm with you man, but its been two years too long. IMO, there's still a lot to be asked for. Klinsmann wants it, and you can tell, but I just dont think he has surrounded himself with the right people. Time will tell.

First of all, why does it matter? All we need to do is qualify for the WC (which we did) and prepare for it. It doesn't matter if it takes 6 months, a year, or two years to implement the style, as long as it happens before the World Cup. If anything, we should be happy things went the way they did because we are peaking at the right time (unlike Mexico).

Second, the idea that he could've done this any sooner is ludicrous. This isn't a club team, it's a national team. They only get a few weeks together a year. JK is completely new to our system and to CONCACAF. This was going to take a long time and we all knew that. All that matters is that it happens at some point before the WC. Considering the group of guys we have (a team in transition and with Donovan on his sojourn, desperately short of attacking players) we're lucky it happened at all this cycle.

I think it's way too quick to say all of this is happening anyway. We played positively against a couple good teams in friendlies (in hot, humid weather) and a couple CONCACAF minnows. With the players we have I don't think it's possible for us to play attacking soccer against any good teams at the WC. If we do than JK is a genius.

The starting line up for the WC is mostly set? Dude, that's idiotic. Plenty of ageing guys who could be anywhere from starters to not making the WC team - Gooch, Boca, Dolo, LD, Goodson, Beas, Jones. Shit happens when you get old. Or apparently it doesn't if you're Ryan Giggs.

Altidore could sit the bench for a year at Sunderland. I'm not hoping for it, but it could happen. Chandler could flake. Besler a lock to start? No way, CB is still up for grabs. Holden could easily knock out Jones from a starting spot if he has a great year in England. Shea might show us why we were excited about him a couple of years ago.

What if we roll through the Gold Cup w/ none of your starters (except LD)?

The benefit to being the big fish in a small pond (like Mexico, Japan, South Korea) you experiment throught the qualifying process. These teams pretty much are guaranteed to qualify so if they are run properly they experiment until the may before the world cup

@Dolcem

We are fine at goalkeeper. Howard has this world cup in him, and after that Guzan will be able to have the next 2. Guzan is solid, and may even be good enough to start now. We are fine. Not only that, but Cherundolo's 2nd "surgery" was a scope to drain out fluid and handle the swelling. Not a big deal, it happens all the time.

@bbakerxyz

Aging guys? Agree on some. Jones WILL be a starter. Cherundolo will more than likely be a starter. The other guys you mentioned are bench, potential first option off the bench guys.

And if Holden knocks anyone out of their spot, it will be Bradley. Anyone can say what they want, but Jones is better than Bradley. If Holden goes in, he will go in to be the more attacking CM and string passes through to the forwards/wingers. Right now, that is Bradley's role. Jones is the best CDM we have, not Bradley. Jones is too valuable. Again, anyone can say what they want, but it thats just how it is. Im not saying Bradley is not good, I am saying that Jones is better and that if Holden were to replace someone in the middle it would be Bradley

I know I'm going to catch shit for saying this, but seriously, and I really can't even tell you why, but I don't think Jones fits in our team. Something about him just makes him not seem effective to me. Personally I'd rather have a Bradley on my team than Jones. That's just me though.

It's not that Jones doesn't fit into this team its more that Bradley and Jones don't compliment each other. They play such a similar game that they don't know how to play with or support one another. This time next year in Brazil I wouldn't be surprised to see either Jones or Bradley replaced by Cameron or Stewart.
