So Shea is on prelim roster to just increase his fitness?

I literally can field two starting rosters with different players I'd be fine with.

There is no way Shea should be on this team. His preseason at Stoke is the most important month of his career. That's how he is going to earn his minutes this season.

Not having Hedges is crazy.

Absoloutley agree he needs to settle with stoke get really good minutes then play with the national team. No way he should be choosen for this tournament he is young and he has a great opportunity with stoke city no need to risk his club future just to play in the gold cup. And I cant believe it either how neither hedges or john on one of the top defenses in mls isnt choosen.

Yet onyewu is included just really scratching my head on his defensive choices for centerback for the gold cup. Boca fine tolerable its probably his last mens national team action honestly dont see him going to the world cup. Goodson isnt good enough slow bad positining among other things. And onyewu who cant get club time with malaga and yet you are naming him to the gold cup. He needs to focus on his club situation also. Klinsmann needs to make it clear that you need playing time for club I remember him saying how important it was to be getting playing time with club. Defensive picks for gold cup really dissapointed me considering we need centerback depth and goodson onyewu have been really poor last couple times they have suited up for the national team. My guess is onyewu and goodson play bad in group stage so klinsman has to call up besler and gonzo for the knockout rounds as two of the four group stage player changes.

I don't have a problem with onyewu getting called. Yea he hardly got any playing time this season but I dont think any CB in the U.S. player pool would've played much if at all for Malaga this season.

While that is a good point, it doesn't make any sense of the fact that you're picking someone who just finished a season with a great team hardly playing over someone who has been playing for a good team that's started every game. I admit that Gooch is more highly rated than either John or Hedges but does that matter when it takes the entirety of the group stage to shake out the cobwebs?

The MLS season is in full swing and the fitness levels of its players should be optimum now, rather than bringing in someone that's just spent a couple weeks on break.

You act as if Gooch's being scooped up by Malaga is actual proof that he is good enough for Malaga. Getting Gooch was a MISTAKE by Malaga.

If you had it your way, hopefully you can come up with a better option at RB.

With who? I was trying to stick to the prelim roster as much as I could. If Yedlin wasnt coming off the U20WC, I'd play him.

I know this isn't the Gold Cup forum in general just USA's but Canada's roster will be very interesting to watch with all of the young MLSers on their roster. I am not sure how Quebec having their own team is going to affect the Canadian national team but when you add the young guys from the Impact onto the roster, Canada will have a very promising MLS homegrown roster for the next olympics and FIFA 2018 qualifying

I'm actually pretty happy with USA's roster to be honest i mean this roster is to take a look at some players that can be integrated in to the actual national team

Quebec national team will have absoloutley zero impact on the canadian national team until Quebec is offically sanctioned by fifa as a official fifa member. Right now they are a non fifa member and few if any people want to be a offical fifa memebrer other then the Parti Quebecois, which is a canadian political party that wants soverignity away from Canada.Truth is it would be intresting to have Quebec as a fifa nation but only if they are able to secede from Canada would I possibly see their national team form since their a lot of politics involved with a quebec national team. 1995 was the closest to Quebec having an official nation but it was narrowly defeated in a referendum 50.4 to 49.6 percent. Feels like I am in history class all over again and I am on summer break lol.

Anyways back to the topic at hand Canada is in a semi tough group for them with Panama, Mexico, and Martinique. Best case scenario is they somehow finish in second place over panama about 25 percent chance of happening. Worst Case scenario is they lose to martinque chance of that around zero. Finally the most likely scenario is them finishing third in the group and then likely having to play the United States and losing in the quartefinals. No way they can get past the quarterfinals they are a decent team but the US team should have enough talent to get past them. Canada future is looking good however it always seems like they are on the cusp of something and they just fall just short in qualifying. I really would like to see them in the 2018 world cup but they will need everything to fall perfectly into place for that to happen.

Malaga only got gooch because they needed to fill out their roster after having to sell players because of financial difficulties. He was just a cheap option they got get on loan and they never really intended on playing him

Totally forgot Shea was at Stoke. But yeah I'd say go back to England and try to impress. In my lineup move LD to the wing and put Corona in centrally.

Pumped to see Corona play.

i think shea should play - at least first round. the kid needs some real game action... and the confidence that only comes with meaningful minutes. send him back to stoke ready to jump in with both feet

wont be surprised to see 1 or 2 names not on prelim roster, but here is my guess

D: ashe, beltran, bocanegra, castillo, onyewu, orozco, parkhurst
M: beckerman, bedoya, corona, disk, donovan, gatt, holden, shea, torres
A: bruin, mac, wondo, wood

i know JK will stick with his trusty 4-4-2, but i would rather see something like this (at least at some point):

------mac------
shea----------LD
---torres--holden---
----beckerman----
cast-boca--park-belt

And jose torres is the first confirmed selection for the gold cup. Not sure of anyone else being called up just yet however I am pretty sure a couple more players or clubs will reveal it before the roster has to be released on thursday.
