Were you prefering he start him at LB? If so I guess you haven't seen the quotes were Castillo says he doesn't like defense and isn't very good at it.

Now with qualifiers if Donovan is called in then yes I want Johnson at LB but if Donovan isnt in then I am ok with Beasley. People have been wanting Johnson at LM and when it finally happens and the US actually shows attacking soccer everyone wants him to move back to LB.

Of course I would prefer him to start at LB. The biggest reason being that there are at least 3 players on the current squad that are better than him at LW. He's being called in for his play at LB. I also dont care if Klinsmann starts Beasley at LB, but then why do you keep wasting a roster spot on Castillo. Its obvious Klinsmann doesnt trust him there. Which is fine, just stop calling him in.

The US has shown attacking soccer because Klinsmann FINALLY removed the defensive midfielder role(4-3-2-1) and moved to a 4-2-3-1, its not just because Fabian Johnson was moved up to LW. I mean, cmon, even Eddie Johnson has seen a little success playing on the wing, even though he is a forward.

But yes, I agree if for some boneheaded reason Donovan isnt called in to the WCQs, then Bealsey at LB and Johnson at LW will be ok. Its just not ideal.

I get the formation talk but how can you say Fabian playing LM/LW isn't the main reason we've started scoring??? in the 5 or 6 games he's played there our goals scored average is way up.. I don't have the numbers in front of me but I know its a fact.

EJ is a tuuuurrrrrrrible winger that's an awful comparison other than that goal he scored in the qualifiers (which was a Strikers goal) he lost the ball didn't play defense passed horribly. Im okay with him at LB as long as LD and Zusi are still playing well but you cannot say theretAT LEAST 3 players better than him at LM/LW that's just nonsense

only thing i agree on is that if theres no spot for Castillo because he's average at both positions than yes stop calling him in

I was talking about Castillo when i said there were at least 3 players better than him on the wing, specifically referring to the Gold Cup Squad.

Your EJ statement is exactly what i'm talking about. He is not a winger, but because of the formation, he's able to have "some success". Remember when he played on the left side against Honduras with a Bradley, Jones, and Edu central midfield? Him and Zusi did absolutely nothing, and I mean zero output. Now with the Bradley, Jones, Dempsey trio, EJ was "passable", and i cant ephasize that word enough, as a winger. Now Zusi is finding the ball in more forward positions with many passing outlets, and Altidore is getting the service. Altidore didnt just flip a switch one night and can now score goals. He's been the same player for the past 2-3 years.

BUT The biggest reason we look better offensively is because Dempsey is being forced to play a hybrid CAM/forward role, instead of only the second striker role. This is because we dropped the third DCM. He doesnt have to drift so far back to get the ball anymore. Bradley and Jones are finding him forward. All the "Dempsey looks lost, cant get into the game" talk is gone.

I guarantee you if you put another capable winger in, our offense will still be good. With Donovan, it will definitely be better.

So, ive been out of it for the past 5 days or so and just saw that Castillo started at LW against Guat? Klinsmann and Vasquez can be utterly clueless sometimes.

Cuba has had their chances. CR has looked sluggish but created some chances as well.

- rimando looked shaky to me
- goodson/gooch shaky as well (but wont be tested much)
- beltran for parkhurst
- torres lets yet another opportunity go to waste (10th start under JK)
- castillo - why does JK INSIST on playing guys out of position at the wide mid spots?

-----gomez-----
------LD-----
shea--holden-mix--bedoya
beasley-goodson-gooch-beltran

well, we have come full circle on the left wing. the first game JK switched to current 4-4-2 torres was on the left.

here is the run-down since then on left wing:
- torres (2)
- EJ (4)
- gatt (1)
- davis (2)
- herc (2)
- fabian (3)
- castillo (1)

i dont get it. why play castillo and now torres on left when you have shea and bedoya - NATURAL WINGERS! - on the bench??? just dont get it. if you want to play beckerman, mix and torres together, why not a 4-3-3, with LD moving into the wide left spot?

id be happy to see a 4-3-3, but in 4-4-2 ill stick with line-up from above, although i dont really mind seeing corona on one of the wings again

The reason that he put Torres on the left is to have a player that can flow in and out of the midfield. When the US attacked, Torres snuck to the middle and Beasley became the wide player. On the right side, Parkhurst never got too forward, so Corona was expected to stay more wide. I think JK felt as though he was going to beat Belize through the heart of them, and not on early crosses from the winger. He seemed to look to late crosses once the attack was established, or a quick counter down the heart as the major approach. Belize is a big side and I would say it was OK tactically. With the full side I agree that LD should be on the wing, but at the GC LD needs to be free in the middle and touch the ball as often as possible. I would like to see Bedoya on the right this game and Corona moving to the left playing it the same way Torres did.

Hopefully this North American battle tonight isnt a snoozer. This Canada team needs to show better. I'm not saying win which isnt out of the question but show fans and the next coach what this team can do. Mexico needs a good showing as well. I expect a Mexico win but a draw or shock Canada win isnt out of the question.

They arent ranked because they arent recognized by FIFA. But it makes you wonder if either Canada isnt that bad or Mexico is in even worse shape.

As I was typing this Martinique down to 10 men for the last 20 minutes. Will see if they can hold on.

Yeah Panama doesn't look good. Martinique deserved a penalty earlier when their player had a basketball pick put on him.

Would be cool to see McInerney, Ashe, and Bruin get some time but that ain't happening. Will be interesting to see if Holden will start again. I think he will. Mix too. But I think Beckerman will hold it down in front of the defense once again.

It would probably be 60% - 40% unless Sounders Season tickets holders had priority for tickets.

Good news - My local news radio was promoting tonight's US vs Costa Rica game
