Yeah crazy how Spain churns out these upcoming stars. Under 21 at the euros and here at the u20 world cup

Nevertheless Yedlin kept up with Deulofeu and impressed even the Spainard.
Gil was creative and confident with the ball.

All I really care about with these youth tournaments is finding the few players that will make the jump to the USMNT. And with Gil and Yedlin the USMNT will have future stars. In Yedlins case he may be with the USMNT sooner rather than later.

I do care about these tournaments to a certain point.. To be honest i would rather see usa win a sub 20 wc much more than a gold cup.. I still think usa played good,, if alonso would of tied it it would of been a completely different game.. I think ramos should bench torre, ocegueda.. Oneil would be back, and put.another lb in,,.wouldnt mind seeing sorto at lb since he is capable of playing both rb,lb.. I think usa has to beat france,.cause it will relieve plenty of pressure vs ghana, also there will most likely be some key players missing vs ghana due to yellow cards, injuries..

Usa could of sure used, packwood, brooks, zimmerman, cunningham,.pelosi, parker, preffer, ext...

Sure it's nice to see a team win, but since U-20 tournaments are every two years, it's always about producing individuals for the senior team. Winning a youth tournament really doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things in the long run.

But yes of course it would be nice to see this team do well.

I have to say though that the 2015 U-20 team will be stacked.

Spanish coach really classy with his opinion. He thought that the score line flattered Spain a bit. And also stated that the US really caused a lot of problems for his team.

I want also add that some US fans out there are really obnoxious and negative. They also show that they really have no pulse as to the good things that are happening with youth development in this country.

The under 15s are ridiclusly good probably the beast youth team usa will produce, they took it to real madrid, barca youth squads, and have done amazing on the international stage vs power houses.. They play like their in their 20s technique, and mentally.. ,wouldnt,,be suprisr to see a few 16,17 yr olds on the 2015 sub 20 squad.. I still have high hopes for, this sub 20 team liked the way they played...

I think overall this team is very good and potent but the defense sadly enough is our weakest link. With attacker like Gil and Villareal we should be excited for attacking soccer in the future but unless we get Brooks and Zimmerman back in the mix we might have a run of bad CB options. THen again the US isnt know for having amazing defensive skills like in WC 2010. Still know this U20 can qualify to next round upset against France those Spanish player ran like they were in crack

Anyone think Ocegueda could be replaced? If so, who is the best option in the eyes of Ramos? And in your eyes?

Here are the stats from the game:

Shots: US 11 ESP 12

Shots on goal: US 5 ESP 9

Possession was basically 50/50

Going by those stats the US played really well. Too bad the defense was just not good enough.

The USMNT will be just fine with CB's going forward i.e. Jean Baptiste 21, Matt Hedges 23, Gonzo 24, John 26, Besler 26, Zimmerman 20, Packwood 20, O'Neill 19, Okugo 23, Ventura 20.

All I can say is thank God for Tab Ramos (or whoever put him up to these tactics). Not doubt a little embarrassing to be taught how to play soccer yesterday, but it's all about player development. Attack, possession. We can move OG to defense later, but let's teach him how to play now. Some of these guys may end up playing in a real WC. That's all that counts.

It would be nice to beat France, but if we lose 5-2 and show some decent skill then I suppose I'm for it.

Now if we could cut the crap and do the opposite sometimes with the senior team then maybe we'd have a shot at getting out of our group in Rio.

what are the possibilities that a few guys can catch Jurgen Eyes and make it to Gold Cup assuming they dont make it out of Group stage . They have good chance attacking wise to make it out group of death but if they dont would one of these youngsters make it to Gold Cup?

Just watched the game and I agree with most of what has been said in this thread. Based on just one game at the highest level for U20, Gil has separated himself from the rest of the US attack.

The backline was atrocious and I agree it was mostly Torre (awful) and Ocegueda who looked lazy. Yedlin may have had a solid game if the rest of the backline wasn't so terrible.

Cropper was a bit Gonzo-esque, he had some great moments followed by head scratchers like coming out of the box on the fourth goal.

Any update on the injuries to Hernandez and Garcia?

Wake up everyone, it is tomorrow morning! I'm taking a vacation day to watch the first game live.

Rough use of a vacation day. I hope you at least went to the zoo afterwards.

It would have been a great day had it not been for the use of the high line. They could have pulled back the line a tad, and still been able to attack to a significant degree. It was overboard, drove me crazy. Torre did the best he was capable of, there was no surprise there.

I was very proud of the offensive effort put out there. Stanko and Torre did the best they could. That degree of high line was overzealous, it's not black and white, not suggesting we should have bunkered in like Chelsea v Barca, just not THAT high of a line. Thought Garcia and Mikey Lopez had very solid games.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
