IF US advance who do you expect to start the first game (taking JK's recent decisions into consideration)?

--------Jozy
Donovan--Dempsey----Zuzi

-----Jones---Bradley
FJ---Besler-Gonzo---Dolo

--------Howard

Not saying this is our best possible line-up.

Intresting lineup although I would say probably the number one decider for right back is how does cherendulo handle getting up in age. While it would be nice to possibly have him for the world cup we also have to remember he will be 35 years old heading into the world cup. With international soccer it is very important to usually be carrying younger players due to the speed of international play. If it likes by next year he hasnt lost a step and chandler hasnt managed to jump ahead of I say keep him for next years world cup in the starting lineup. However if it looks like he isnt as sharp as he once was which happens with age then the change might need to happen.

Fabian Johnson at left back is an intresting pick I am hopeful that someone can make the leftback spot their own since I like Fabian at left midfielder a lot. As much as I admire beasley I dont think he is our future leftback mabye castillo can grab the postition since he will be most likely starting the gold cup.

In central Midfield jermaine jones performance against honduras was really headscratching he was out of position a lot and it seemed like he wasnt doing his job which was to protect the centerbacks and be the defensive midfielder. Jones needs to stick to his role every single game it is very frustrating that he keeps pushing up the field way too high it leaves our centerbacks completely vunreable. Honeslty if jones can stick to his postion he and bradley should be in the central of midfield. However if he keeps being undisciplined and refuses to follow the role that he is given he should lose his starting place in the lineup for a game and see if he starts to get his act together. No one should be guaranteed a starting spot on this team I understand professing confidence for players but jones needs to get his act together.

At centerback besler has really impressed me with his tactical awareness and passing out of the back. Gonzo has been okay but my worries are once the opposition starts to grow in quality level how will gonzalez react. We all know he can handle concacaf defenses but can he handle teams with better striking options. Finally at right midfield the question becomes landon donovan or graham zusi this is probably one of the most intresting developments for next year. Will klinsmann stick with zusi who brings crosses and helps with keeping possesion. Or will he go with the pace and expirence of donovan. My gut says he chooses donovan by the world cup however I dont think donvoan after the gold cup will automatically make it back in the starting lineup. Dont be suprised if he emerges in a supersub role for the september qualifiers. Elsewhere our strikers are doing great dempsey and altidore are our stirkers. Bradley, fabian johnson, howard they are all guaranteed in starting lineup unless because of injuries. However there are wildcards for example holden, shea, gatt, and a possible emergence of someone at the left back position.

----Jozy
FJ-Dempsey--Donovan
--Bradley--
---Jones--
Castillo--Besler-Gonzo--Chandler
----Howard

This is my guess of what klinsmann uses while I love cherendulo I am optimistic he will remain in peak form. My guess is klinsmann starts to give chandler some more time next couple months and he inevitably gets the start at world cup. For now I only see castillo as a possible future left back for next year other then FJ there hasnt been enough sample size for morrow or ashe or even ocgenuda if he can get a lot of playing time in the liga mx. Beasley should be a short term option until someone can claim the left back spot. At centerback I think gonzalez and besler due to their understanding and the fact that klinsman seems very heistant to bench gonzalez. At central midfielder I think he sticks with jones and jones starts to stay where he should and play the defensive midfielder role like he should have.

I think RB will end up being someone we haven't seen yet. Evans had a nice run in June, but he's not the long term answer. Who knows where Chandler's form/commitment will be. Dolo, in my opinion, is still the best player there right now, but he's getting more fragile with age and with another year in the Bundesliga between now and the WC? I'll be a bit surprised if he's starting.

I'm still not sold on Gonzo yet either. He's been a bit fortunate that is big mistakes haven't cost the US any goals in the last 3 qualifiers. As of now, he remains good for one howler per match. With that said, he's definitely got he inside track at the moment.

Here is my starting 11 and full 23 man roster.

----------Jozy--------
Fabian------Deuce--------Lando
-------Holden----Bradley---
Beasley----Besler----Gonzo----Chandler
------------Howard----------
Subs: Guzan, Rimando, Brooks, Lichaj, Yedlin, Jones, Cameron, Edu, Shea, Zusi, Agudelo, EJ

Yes I am moving on from Dolo. One of my favorite players, but he is slowing down. Also I think Yedlin is just too much of an exciting RB prospect for Klinsmann not to start calling him in after the U-20 WC.

No Evans, Davis, or Kljestan. Sorry guys.

Yes I have Lichaj over Castillo.

Hopefully Brooks makes the decision to play for the US this year.

I have Agudelo overtaking Boyd for the WC.

Gomez and Boyd miss out.

I think this lineup could win the world cup next summer.
.....Jozy....
Adu..adu..adu
..Bradley..adu
Adu..besler...gonzo....adu
Freddy Adu

Freddy adu is so good he can play almost every postion on the field. Now if we just could get Obama to approve cloning (dont be fooled our government has the technology it just needs FDA approved) the world cup would be ours for the taking.

Most of you are wondering why I would put a cloned Freddy adu in goal, well its very simple Freddy adu is so good any opposing team would never get the ball let alone a shot on goal. So why not just have the extra Adu on the field.

@DaBurgh thank you for making my morning.

Personally I don't see too many changes from the squad we see now, though I think Gonzo will get bounced for Cam if he doesn't shore up.

I think Chandler's club form, Cam's playing time/positioning, and Donovan will be the biggest ?'s going into the final run.

I doubt Beasley is playing LB during the WC and I agree with every other lineup change you've made JJ does not need to be on the field I want that to be Holden. Hold out hope that Johanson and Brooks become commited sometiem this year and show up in the picture. Gomez and Boyd definitely miss out a young fast striker will be picked instead.

obviously things can change, but only real question i see (in JKs mind) right now is chandler v dolo. id go chandler

donovan will force a change and i think JK values zusi far more than beasley. plus i think he feels fabian can get forward effectively from LB spot

---------altidore-------
--------dempsey-------
donovan-------------zusi
-----bradley--jones------
fabian-besler-gonzo-chandler

id replace zusi with cameron and move to more of a 4-3-3,,,

I think this is the most accurate depiction (at the moment) of the starting lineup. FJ proved against Honduras on Tuesday that he's way more effective at LB because of his ability to close down attackers (rather than track back and wait for help like DMB) and execute smart overlapping runs. Donovan will play his way back into the starting lineup which will be huge in terms of veteran leadership. I hope Gonzo and Besler continue to develop the chemistry in the central defense because if they can figure it out, I think that we'll have a very solid duo at CB. Same with Bradley and Jones. I think JK needs to lay the hammer down and tell Jones that he's going to play the holding role while Bradley is the box-to-box guy (MB is so much more composed in the attack and has a killer shot), if Jones can't handle it, then I'd like to see Cameron step into that role. Also need to keep an eye on Chandler's form/commitment over the next year.

One thing to keep an eye on is whether or not Brek Shea is able to regain the electric form he had in Dallas. Pulis is out so hopefully the offensive tactics at Stoke change in a way that benefits Shea. If he starts to tear it up again, I could see Zusi become a supersub and then have Donovan on the right and Shea on the left. Still, I think Zusi would have to experience a huge drop-off in production, and Shea a huge increase in production, for that to happen.

People

Castillo is the third choice at left back. He provides cover and depth all over the left side but is a huge liability on defense and can only hit the ball with his left foot.

I can't fathom why some people on this board have such a man crush on him. Beasley has made fewer mistakes at left back this whole calendar year than El homi/ el gringo Castillo in 10 minutes against Germany. DmB will be that starter at left back pending fitness. If he's hurt Fabian will slide back from midfield to left back and allow any numbers to play the left midfield position.

Juergen didn't trust Castillo against Honduras at home, he won't be starting in brasil.

If everyone is healthy, from the current starting 11 I would think the only possible changes would be Evans, E. Johnson, and possibly J Jones out.

I would expect one or two of the U-20's to make the trip for experience. One, maybe two from Gatt, Shea, and Gyau would be good for the bench.

Just a guess for the starters for the first match:

Howard
Yedlin, Besler, Gonzo, Beasley
Bradley, Cameron
Zusi, Dempsey, F Johnson
Jozy

Bench: Guzan, Cropper, Lichaj, Parkhurst, Goodsen, Holden, J Jones, Shea, Gyau, Gil, Aguadelo, Gomez,

I don't know what's happened with Lichaj, and why the lack of playing time at Villa, but I'm hoping the move to Nottingham Forest will see him fulfill his potential. IMO he is an upgrade to Evans, and unfortunately Cherundolo can't seem to stay healthy these days. Tim Chandler is overrated and I'm still not convinced he wants to play with the USA.

Cameron/Bradley > Jones/Bradley - end of story.

I know some may wonder why no Donovan, but Zusi and Johnson have given us the width we have so desperately needed for so long. I can't justify leaving either off just because it's Landon. He'll be a super sub. A game changer off the bench.
