Dont start castillo for the next game against honduras I am sorry but he is too much of a risk at this point. I say go safe put johnson back and move ej to left wing and bring in Zusi on the right. Plus people are forgetting that Castillo is pretty much guaranteed to be going to the gold cup why not let him do his thing at the gold cup give him a lot of game time and look at that body of work. As for central midfield I say dont risk it with jones concussions are serious plus cameron is in good form so start cameron for the next game.

I understand castillo has played really good for tijuana but he has not looked comfortable for the national team you dont take a risk this high when you can have fabian johnson at left back for one game. Its not like we are choosing between castillo and parkhurst. Let castillo do his thing for the gold cup if he perfoms well great we can start giving him some starting time at left back since it looks like fabian will be our left midfielder for the near future.

Why not castillo ? How is he a.risk ? He is a pure lb, and arguably better than beasley at the position.. And fabian has been playing better in the wing than at lb.. if fabian is dropped at lb who will be the wing ? No way eddie will play on the left, or zusi.. Both are right wings.. Or u could put fabian at lb, and castillo on the wing.. Corona can also play on the wing but his more of a cm.. My bet is castillo starts at lb, and jones will start over cameron.. Klissman will go back to jones since he played against honduras already, and played fairly well...

EJ has one move...push it past the defender and beat him with speed. The result 90% of the time...another defender covers and knocks EJ off the ball at which time he NEVER tracks back to win the ball back and stands there like a baby not helping out on D. He's a one trick pony and totally predictable. That crap, while occasionally effective against lower level CONCACAF opponents, will never fly at the WC level.

I don't recall anyone preferring EJ to start stating he should start at the WC.

It's merely a preference of Fabian Johnson over Castillo at LB, thus resulting in EJ being our next best option at LW.

Difference of opinion I suppose. I'd rather see Cameron in there at CM with JJ and Bradley pushing higher with Fabian at the LB than have EJ anywhere near the field. Fast, yes. Can be a threat, yes. But mostly one track minded and not a great team player. Never been a fan.

IF Jones is ready he slots back in for Cameron and Castillo for the suspended Beasley. Keep FJ at LW.

Has anyone heard if Boniek Garcia is a go for the game?

id vote to see cameron at CM again for 2 reasons:
1) we need to develop that #3 CM option
2) showcase him at that spot for stoke
- i have never bought the "CB is his best position" business. he said that when he was playing CB, was hoping to get a look from USMNT, and USMNT was desperate for any good CB option. he was basically a midfielder through college and first few years with houston and his instincts are to push the ball forward.

to boot, his chances of being a CM for stoke are better than a CB

as for fabian - if he is going to be LM option, let him own that position. if castillo does not look up for it early in game, you can either swap them or just tell fabian to give castillo extra support, then make a change at half if need be.

castillo was poor in 30 min v germany but larger body of work indicates he could be a good option. honduras at home is not a risky environment.

@ rainORshine I could agree with you more about cameron. He had a great game at D mid, he never looks comfortable playing center back.

My hesitation with putting Fabian at LB is that since he has played at LW the US has scored 10 goals. Not saying its all cause of him but Fabian is a much better winger and Eddie Johnson. I say you keep Fabian at LW and start Castillo or Cameron or someone else

I agree. You can't argue with the goal production. More importantly you can actually see that our attack has width, which it lacked big time in Honduras last time.

I worry that castillo will get caught in an attack and leave us exposed wide. zusi gets all the way back when he needs to, (thank goodness because brad evans is no usain bolt) but i'm not sure that f j has the zeal for defense that will keep us from getting exposed on a castillo run.

that said, i think fj still brings enough offensively that we keep him in the midfield role and we'll still be smoking a cigar after the game.

If we go with Cameron in the holding role I have no problems with Castillo at LB as Cameron will stay back more. If we go back to Jones (which I think we should) I could see that issue coming up and would feel better with Fab back there. Either way we should be able to push it more on Honduras than back in Feb due to the game being played at home and not in 100 deg weather

Fab is the safe choice but Castillo has earned this shot. He won't be any worse than Beas and he has been manning the position all season with his club. We've had success recently with Fabian higher up the pitch so why put him in the defense when Castillo is more than capable against the likes of Honduras?

Not to sabotage this thread but looking forward would Tim Chandler be on option on the left when he comes back healthy? This way Fabian stays at lm and you can get dolo and chandler on the field at the same time. Donovan comes back and to me that is a pretty sharp lineup with good backups in Cameron, Beasley, and Zusi.
