Sorry but as long as kids are getting offers, especially from clubs in big footballing countries, they will be heading to Europe.

The elite development that can be administered under the tutelage of a European team will be much more comprehensive and likely to take hold. I'm not saying that we're not capable of doing the exact same thing, our emerging academy system (particularly in Dallas) is testament to that...but until we start saturating our country with elite coaches/staff, we will not be able to compete.
If the couple/few years training/playing in Europe don't make them into an elite player, there's still plenty of space in the MLS for promising, young, American talent.

If he were a field player, I would agree...but the one thing we can produce are keepers.

US GKs seem to always go to Europe which is great. Good for the guy.

Yeah i know nothing about this kid in particular, I was really just voicing an opinion about US (field) players in general in regards to youth development.
I've heard it said that Americans excel at GK due to the fact that we all grow up playing hand-eye coordination oriented sports, and as such we have a leg-up on the competition. i'm inclined to believe it, and would expect that basketball players would make the best out-of-sport transplants. They're generally tall, they're used to catching balls rather than smacking them away, and they can jump higher than most for punches/catches.
CBoyd3142 Probably far from where you are...

Lmao that's great. I can just imagine a young Brad Friedel with his giant bald head and oddly AmeriEnglish accent on a basketball court.

Top level soccer is in Europe, if any opportunity comes to head to Europe any youth player would take it..no matter what position. All the European youth academies focus to keep that top level and if a American youth an join one of them, it does nothing but benefit.
Makes you think what if Adu had taken that offer from inter when he was a kid, where would he be know...not in brazil that's forsure...
Only thing I have to complain about is the low number of young American CB's heading abroad...
