Texas expat living in Columbus. I always enjoy catching a few Crew games a season but have never given much thought to the team's name/crest.

A google search later, and I found this little gem: http://www.footballcrests.com/clubs/columbus-...

Neat info from Adidas on how the name and crest came to be.

Now what does this mean for the Cosmos' chances of getting into the MLS?

The Cosmos will more than likely never see the MLS. However, it COULD happen. They would have 1 chance of getting in the MLS, but it would not be for multiple years and a few things would have to happen first.

~ 3 teams in NY is too much. Soccer isnt that popular. 2 is literally the max. Since NYCFC wont be going anywhere, it would have to be the Red Bulls.
~ NYCFC sucks up the NY Red Bull fanbase. People stop going to games and the team starts losing money. In order to keep the franchise afloat, Red Bull moves the team somewhere else.
~ Red Bulls move to a new market, and leave NY with only 1 team, NYCFC.
~ Cosmos jump in there, establish their club as the 2nd new york team, place their team IN NYC. Not New Jersey, but NYC.

I dont really see this happening tho...

I would love the NY Cosmos to replace the NYRB

You would need an owner with deep pocket books

* sell the existing stadium to NASL or USL team
* make RB arena into an academy
* put a stadium in Manhattan (knock out some real estate)

I really wish NYCFC was called Gotham City FC. Names like that in MLS would bring intrigue to the league

I really like the team name SC Houston (Space City Houston) instead of the dynamo

Houston already has the Astros and Rockets. I'm ok with them not playing the space angle in their team name. It's a shame that Houston 1836 was deemed insensitive as I think that it sounded great like 1860 Muenchen.

I hate the fact that they call themselves the Houston Dynamo. First, there is link to Soviet Police whatsoever. Second, and more importantly, if they want to go with Dynamo they should have at least went with Dynamo Houston. The word Dynamo should come first.

The NYCFC supporters group (or at the very least the section that they sit in) should definitely be called "Hell's Kitchen" - it's sort of an homage to Galatasaray, but mainly just a reference to NYC's own history and one of it's famous neighborhoods. Plus it sounds badass.

If I'm not mistaken, Gotham City is an intellectual property owned by DC Comics and you'd probably have to pay them a fee annually just to be able to use the name without being sued. That said, if you could partner with DC and get the Batman logo branded all over the place, it's not hard to imagine that they'd do very well right off the...bat...for at least the gimmick's sake. I would say that I'm not entirely comfortable with that kind of corporate bleed-over, but it seems to have worked out for Red Bulls so what the hell, make it happen!

We need a New York City section for this message board!

A report is out from Big Apple Soccer that NYC is interested in Mix Diskerud. His contract is up after this season with Rosenborg.

Also, the rumor is out there that is linking Gareth Barry to MLS, with NYC the logical landing spot. Its only a rumor but I would be on board. But he's got plenty in the bag still, so he might make Everton a permanent move.

Can anybody give me some insight on Kreis's coaching style?

Mix and Jozy would be a great combo. Use 3rd DP as a CB.

"We believe that we can be a club that represents the city itself," he said. "Up until now, [the New York Red Bulls] have always played in New Jersey. We want to be a team that can represent the city itself, and play in the city." - Jason Kreis

This Kreis guy is alriiiight. I just made a deposit for season tickets the other day. We have a long way to go but the excitement and anticipation is building everyday.

No doubt a nice combo, but I just get this feeling that the club will want to make a bigger splash. Is Mix really valued as a DP? He's a borderline starter at Rosenborg.

I don't think Mixx is worth a DP slot. He should be seen in a similar light as Edu. Worthy addition, not DP. But the MLS might just see it as a stunt to bring in a USMNTer.

All depends on the new CBA and how much they raise the Salary Cap. Mix could get paid lets say 600,000 to 700,000 thousand a year and under the new Salary Cap not be considered a DP.

Trust me things are going to change with the new CBA.

Mix would be awesome. If he doesnt Move to Europe, NYCFC would be great.
