Because we are not europe and we dont call the sport football (FC), we call it soccer (SC) and a mascot name needs to represent the city and the history. Im fine with the FC name if its creative such as

Gotham City FC (this the name they should have went with, its historical)

You know how many damn people would show up in Superhero costumes ?? That would be a fun environment

Real salt lake, sporting KC ? Cmon man

NYCFC is also a mouthful to say

I hate the FC part of it too. I'm an American and I call it soccer. It should be NYC SC. I agree, that is a mouthful to say. But how often do you say MUFC, MCFC, CFC? Eventually these teams go by one word. United, City, Chelsea, etc. You need to start somewhere and it should be the city/town the team is based. We'll all call it New York. Maybe as years go by and the history develops, nicknames will come and with meaning. Gotham is a great nickname. I have my concerns on how Man City will present this team, but stuff like that is how this team will come to represent NYC first and foremost, with Man City in the background.

Everyone keeps talking about credibility across the world as a soccer league, yet many of you also still want us to be naming our clubs things like the Texas Rootin' Tootin' Cowboys and Seattle Fish Mongers. If we want to gain credibility and respect from leagues across the world, we need to do away with American team names like the New England Revolution and Chicago Fire and L.A. Galaxy.

Anything with the city name and fc after it is kool to. I think anywhere you go in the world and mention la galaxy people know who they are..

Revolution and Fire are cool names because they embrace certain historical elements of the city. That's about as pure as it gets.

It's like how Sheffield Wednesday gave itself the name to align with the cricket team who played on Wednesdays.

It's also like Bolton were named the Bolton Wanderers because they couldn't find a home ground and moved from place to place.

Any kind of name can sound dumb when just looking at the name itself. But when they're history.. like Revolution in the New England area or the Great Chicago Fire, it's fine with me.

I never really was fond of the Crew or the Earthquakes.

Now what does this mean for the Cosmos' chances of getting into the MLS?

Whats wrong with Revolution? It's historical and is quite fitting for New England considering New England sparked the American Revolution.

I see nothing wrong with Crew.

As a Revs fan I just don't like it cause I feel like we are New England Patriots junior. It just seems amateurish. Same owners, same stadium, same colors, same concept. The whole team just seems like the weren't creative enough so when they copied the Pats. Gave it a Revolutionary War themed name and kept everything else about the Pats. I'd like the team to get its own identity you know. And the logo, don't get me started. To me and my friends it just seems so amateurish you know? Like is that the best they could do?

I dont like New England Revolution because the team needs to be in Boston and that doesnt flow for me. IMO the club should be an irish name. Thats history too

Chicago fire has an identity problem

Chicago fire is an event
Chicago fire is a fire department
Chicago fire is a TV show

San Jose earthquakes is kinda lame because the earthquake happened in San Francisco but its grown on me... baffled by the mascot

Columbus Crew is just bad, crest and all

Though I wouldn't mind staying with the revolutionary theme cause us
Bostonians are proud of our history but changing it up somehow would be nice.

Why an Irish name? There are big populations of Italians, Portuguese, Jewish, and Latinos in Boston as well as Irish. I Understand that there is historical backgrounds with the Irish in Boston, but so do other ethnicities in Boston.

Boston Minutemen is money. But that won't happen. They won't drop the NE name because its the Kraft's and that's not how they do things. NE Patriots and NE Rev. Honestly though I don't think its that bad of a name. They just need a better get-up and to start being good again. With a cool stadium and all. But rebranding, IMO, isn't a requirement for that.

NE Revs should move to the city of Boston. It would add to the NY/Bos rivalry which is in every major sport. But they should stick to their MLS roots and go with Boston Revolution.
