One thing that I have noticed today, is that people can't handle healthy debate. They so want there argument to be right, that they get angry when it can be debated against.

Originally the definition of an argument/debate: A statement or a series of statements for or against something. In logic and Philosophy: An argument is an attempt to persuade someone of something, by giving giving reasons for accepting something as evident.

But far to many people go to this definition of an argument: An angry disagreement.

Too many people think that a logical argument is an attack on them personally when in fact it's only an argument against their statement.

2tone - what, exactly is the "debate" you are trying to have that has not been "resolved"?

Whether you do or you don't.... no need in the language, it doesn't do anything to further your argument.

dolcem and 2tone

please write me a really long detailed message about which facts i am and am not "allowed" to post on this forum...

...so that i completely ignore it

looking forward to (ignoring) it

I would contend that using the words "fuck you" to another poster who writes a reasonable response to you is not/should not be allowed. 2t is also probably the biggest contributor to the forum. I think a little respect is warranted.

telling me to not use facts to support my opinion is a "reasonable" response?

I gave Rain a very logical response. He may think it's BS, but that's because it can counter his argument. Rain got angry, and thought I was attacking him personally. I wasn't. I was attacking his statement with a logic based argument.

I will not apologise for creating a logical debate.

I never said don't use facts, I was simply arguing that statistics do not hold a lot of weight in soccer. I also mentioned in the post that we should try not to pretend to be expert scouts or coaches. It was more of a request/argument/plea than a command though. There's free speech here.

so are we done hear?

how bout this...

a) ill post whatever facts/statistics i see valid
b) people can ignore, comment, whatever
c) 2tone and dolcem can warn people about their importance (or lack therof)

good?

so in this case:
- i posted that USMNT has scored 4 goals goals in SK's last 39 minutes over 2 games
- 2tone and dolcem think that is useless information

does that about cover it?
we square?

And yes I believe Kljestan deserves more minutes, even though I am not a huge fan of him.

Not big on stats but they can be useful. I would like to see Kljestan over Jones for a while. Jones PT at USMNT does not equal how he plays at Schalke, he loses possession entirely too much.

2tone - i do apologize for my profanity laced response.

Maybe I needn't have been, but obviously I was very aggravated by the exchange. I put out a piece of information that I felt was relevant. Your response seemed to indicate that you judged the information irrelevant AND misleading (no problem) and further it seemed as if you were trying to suggest that I somehow process all my comments through some sort of "2tone-approved filter" in the future

"But let's try not to use confirmation bias for our favorite players next time."

first, I am not at all interested in your ideas/theories regarding your "confirmation bias". many (if not most) my comments about players i support will come from a platform of "confirmation bias"

I presented a simple fact that I feel supports the idea that kljestan deserves more playing time. this is "confirmation bias", no matter what the piece of information is.

with the above comment - the comment i responded to abrasively - you were not offering a "debate" about the relevance of the information i presented.

the best i can gather:
- YOU feel the information is misleading (despite its basis in FACT) and you want me to anticipate what YOU feel is misleading and edit my comments accordingly

if i have misunderstood I still need clarification. if i have understood, i still feel the equivalent of a swift "F-U" is fair game (but i will try to keep it reasonably PG in the future)

if YOU ever feel information i put out needs a disclaimer - go for it

I never said anything about you editing your comments. I gave you a logical debate and you couldn't counter. I gave a clear and concise argument that doesn't need to be explained anymore clearly.

I except your apology and have moved on.

Feel free to write whatever you would like(freedom of press and speech), but expect a clear and concise counter argument if it's warranted(freedom of press and speech). A healthy and a logical debate is good for the soul and mind. None of us are 100 percent right or wrong about the topics we choose and the opinions we express.

I have conceded that Kljestan deserves more looks with the USMNT. And in that regard your overtures on these forums to include Kljestan more with the USMNT and Kljestans form for his club team, have successfully swayed my opinion in a positive light about him, to a certain extent.
