To those of you saying LD is playing well right now, I would ask you to review his last game as Mojofc stated above. I will give you some of the passes he has made have been just like the LD of old. However, this is still MLS and after just a couple of games, I say we need to leave the jury out on this until the end of the month. By that time he will hopefully have three more full games under his belt and is showing the fire he claims to have rekindled. He can play the May 26 game and still be called up for the the WCQ. I would venture to guess JK is trying to let him know he is still not out of the doghouse.

I could see not starting LD and having him on the bench to earn his starting spot, but to say 3 weeks out that he will not be on the team is mind boggling..

maybe JK is just giving LD some motivation.. but whats the difference in having him on the roster and leaving off Shea or someone who will never see the field this time..

This will not "give LD motivation". LD is not some sort of creature of simplistic psychology who when not put on a roster will suddently become super motivated and raise his game to the next level and all will be well. This is nonsense and a shot in the foot for the USMNT during those WCQs.

It's damn risky. But I will support the team regardless.

All I have to say is the player(s) chosen in Donovans stead better produce.

Extremely risky.

Also, I see guys like Ives Galarcep and Simon Evans saying its good to leave LD off because it could damage the team chemistry. Anybody care to tell me the last time we looked like we had chemistry? This team has been out of whack for awhile now. Im not even saying that Landon is the glue that holds this squad together, but its just another BS excuse people are making up.

But of course, I'm supporting this team regardless. I just dont get why Klinsmann needs to keep these mind games up, keep people guessing. This is what kills team chemistry.

At this point can team chemistry be worsened any further? We are at a minimum.

Donovan just did an interview about it with the All Access podcast for LA. You can see a written recap on MLS's website. He doesn't seem to know he is snubbed and has been in talks with Klinsy. Interesting read, at least regarding his positive attitude and confidence to get the spot if its really not there for him this roster.

I think LD gets a callup after this. Jurgen will pull a fast one and say he never snubbed him, it was just a miscommunication by the media. BeingAnIdiot101

Ok, can someone please explain to me why Graham Zusi is considered by many as the player the "obviously" deserves to start over Donovan? I know that in sports, especially in soccer that stats can be misleading at times especially because in soccer stats do not take into account positioning, fitness and tactical awareness. However in Donovan's case in a month(next WCQ) his fitness will be at near 100%.
Landon Donovan 5 games, 2 goals 3 assists
Graham Zusi 11 games, 3 goals 3 assists
Break Shea(last season with FCD)
20 games, 3 goals, 2 assists
(this season w/ Stoke)
2 substitute apps, 1 shot on goal
I threw Shea in there as well because everyone seems to believe JK is going to call him in as well which to me would be the most hypocritical thing JK could do should he not call in Donovan as well. To make it clear, I have no problem with Zusi starting(I would like to see he and LD on the wings) and I don't have that much of an issue with Shea being called in given his lack of PT at Stoke. But for Klinsmann to paint a picture for all of us that Donovan simply isn't good enough right now to put the Stars and Stripes on while he calls in Brek Shea is an insult to me as a fan because that would mean all the crap about club form was an excuse to play favorites at the time. I can only imagine how LD feels and how others in the locker room would feel if this scenario plays out the way it looks. Gotta give it to LD though, he really really wants to play for the USMNT again though because he has said ALL the right things in terms of kissing Jurgens-ego. A younger Donovan might have sounded off by now to let us and Klinsmann know how he really feels.

I just want to point out that Zusi has 4 assists on the year.

Quite frankly I think both Zusi and Donovan should be starters.

Thanks, yeah I dont know why I put 3 on assists for Zeus. But like I said I agree on Zusi and LD starting, though my point was that is I had to choose, I would take Donovan over Zusi no question along with the fact that if he(JK) calls in Shea he better call in Donovan or he is going to have more people jumping on the "Klinsmann is full of garbage" bandwagon, such as myself. Though that might not seem like much because that bandwagon is pretty much a caravan right now, I have been pretty consistent on my support for JK. To me, this is a really important decision for Klinsmann to make because if he gets it wrong(doesn't call LD and we struggle to live up to expectations) he will lose the backing of the few fans who have stood by him this long leaving little to no one left who thinks he is the man for the job. The other scenario is of course that he doesn't call LD and we do well in his absence. But if LD continues his form from last evening vs Philly people will still question Klinsmann for not bringing in the most decorated player in American soccer history. Obviously, we are not the managers but I would be really really interested to see a poll question on who believes Donovan should be called into the squad this month, it seems like an absolute no brainer to me.( I am looking for any reasonable explanation to why he won't be called in but someone like Brek Shea would)

A lot of highly respected analysts, bloggers dont seem to get this concept. Why is it a choice of either Donovan or Zusi? I think its so obvious these two can both start. They both can play on either the right or the left, and can drift in centrally when necessary.

Yeah, risky move by Klinsy. I don't think Lando is someone who needs external motivation (like, say, Altidore might).

And I would think Lando would be great for chemistry since he's been with the team for 12 years and has usually been the best guy on the field for us. One of our rare guys who plays as well (better?) for country as he does for club.

Klinsy is definitely a piece of work.

"Risk" implies you make a decision in order to get a potential reward. My question is: what in that german guy's mind was he considering the potential reward?
