So Klinsmann said in an interview that guys like Kyle Beckerman were 50/50 for Qualifiers and for sure Gold Cup contenders. Anyone else worried of seeing a midfield of Davis, Evans, and Beckerman? I know I am. Please give us guys like Bedoya, Morales, COB, and Mix. I don't want another repeat of January when we started a team of 30 year olds. No more Wondo, Gordon, and I don't want EJ either. It would be so much more entertaining with guys like Gatt, Wooten, Boyd, McInernie, even Wood and Gyau tho they havnt done a ton to warrant call ups but still.

@ Nick4235

if i see Brad davis, beckerman, or Brad evans involved in the GC cup I will not support klinsmann any longer

All 3 of those guys will get smoked by latin players. Brad evans and brad davis looked foolish vs santos laguna

I agree that it would be much more entertaining to see the younger players, especially hearing the rumor about aron johannsson today

Aron Johannsson is still recovering. And the minutes I have seen of him in 2013, he has been mostly mediocre. Perhaps when recovered he can go back to his stellar form of the past, but by the summer it might not be there..

Don't spin the interview man. The exact one you are quoting from, he only mentioned Beckerman... Then went on to specificlly mention Bedoya, Mixx, Agudelo, Gatt, and A. Johansson. We'll see about the other guys you list, but many of them are probable too. Its going to be a mix of vets and young guys.

The roster may be a mix of old and young, but his starting lineup is likely to be much more old.

I didn't mean to spin the interview. Ill admit I didn't read the part oboist younger players until after I typed that comment. I'm glad he brought up those names but my point still stands. He called up Davis to the WCQ camp and he has said in the past that the Gold Cup will have fringe World Cup Qualifier guys. I'd assume Davis is considered fringe so we may see him. I've heard Klinsmann likes Evans so I don't think my comment was all that outlandish. After all the Camp Cupcake is supposed to be for young players too but look how that turned out. I mean Klinsann hasn't given COB a sniff and Mix didnt even dress in January. I wouldn't be surprised to see more veterans this summer.

Im fully ready to be disappointed to see a starting lineup that includes Beasley, EJ, Davis, Evans, Beckerman, Herc, Boca and Goodson

OK I will blunt here an say i would to see the young guys. Why well because for the future with us unlike this 30ish mls players. But I wont get mad i jurgen calls a mix but if one of the younger player is playing better than a older vet player you start them. no excuse. So for Example if Jack Mac is playing and training better than Eddie J than you start Mac. So please Jurgen forget the age even if they are young. I say this because there young player are way better than most vets in mls

Looks like another dual national player crossed off the list.

Miguel Ponce called up to the gold cup roster for mexico

I know he was a long shot because he played for mexico olympic team and plays for chivas but he got snubbed for playing time in the olympics and never really featured for the senior team since then.

I always rated him higher than castillo and beasley at LB

I could have seen him as a back up to fabian and a potential WC player for the US. Now it looks like he'll get cap-tied in the gold cup for mexico and never be seen again after that.

Man I wished we wouldve got Gotoku Sakai. That kid is bad ass!

Yeah its a shame wanted ponce really badly at left back but you lose some and you win some. We also lost Isaac Brizuala another dual citizen was named to the gold cup squad played for atlas, although I rated ponce higher. I cant wait to see the united states gold cup team. Yeah sakai was such a low chance but he would have paid dividends for sure as the future at right back.

JK is using the GC to plug the gaps in WC roster next year. The age of the player is irrelevant. The GC two years from you will be targeted towards grooming new talent. Keep your eyes on the wing players at midfield and defense, as I think that where he wants depth. We also need insurance at CB, so I expect the veterans to get lots of playing time.

No it won't. The 2015 gold cup will be 100% A squad. If we win this year winning is gets us in confed cup. If we lose this year we need to win to get in playoff. Add in the face that we will have 0 WCQ games that year (barring change from CONCACAF our round will start in 2016). There's no reaso not to play A squad

2015 Gold Cup will be pure A team I imagine, since nothing else officially is going on. I think Klinsy will balance young guys and vets to try and get a win this year so that the Confed cup can happen. The best teams in the GC are also in the WCQ so they aren't bringing world-beaters either. We have a legit shot and its on home turf. Hoping that Mexico suffers the form they have now and doesn't even get to the quarters.
