I don't know how anyone can look at Adu and not think it's his fault entirely. As a youngster he didn't live up to unfair hype...fine. Not his fault for ESPN being ESPN. But he's had about 35 clubs since then, and they've all ended the same. Totally unceremoniously. He either has an incredible knack of not fitting in with his mates or his coaches, he's just not that good, or he doesn't show up and put in effort. It's either one of those, or all three of them, because by now, he would have found at least one coach who believed in him if it wasn't. If he showed promise at Philly, and his teammates weren't celebrating with him, that's on him. Because after Brazil, Turkey, USL, MLS, Portugal, Serbia, Greece et. al, he should be well versed on how to fit in. The above is not a small sample size, so there is something fundamentally wrong with his personality that keeps turning off coaches and teammates....and the ability isn't what it needs to be to overcome that.

Nagbe is a great guy and a superb role model for youth playing the game. I just don't see that IT factor. He's much better than the midfielders we used under Jurgen.

Johnvuke I totally agree with most, but you forgot to mention that on many occasions managers that did believe in Adu were fired right as or during their season, and the new coach did not want him. Still not arguing that he didn't do most of this himself because he did. IF he really wanted a comeback, he'd go to the MLS for a minimum contract and prove his worth. Remember Atl wanted him BAD and he shut the door on that. That's his fault because Atl is a top team in the MLS in it's first season.... Adu is like the Will Smith of Soccer....turns down roles like the Matrix, Django, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, etc....then he regrets the decision...

If we're talking about Flops like we most certainly do with Adu, Will Smith career is FULL of flops, he's known for Fresh Prince and MIB, more than anything else...

You go around the WORLD and ask who Peyton Manning is and who Freddy Adu is, who is more well known??? Flop or Not i wouldnt mind more than half the globe knowing who i was flop or not....

With that being said I hope he redeems himself, if not o well. The US doing well is my top priority when it comes to USMNT and Talent.

He's been logging in under bjelks recently, the most reasonable of all of his DLs. I'm starting to wonder if they're all blaise.

The answer is Peyton Manning and it wouldn't be close.

There are 3 things that have consistently been raised at nearly every stop that Adu has made....
1) Professionalism (or lack there of). Early in his career there was a lot of press regarding Freddy not taking his career seriously....clubbing, not practicing, being out of shape/condition, etc.... This often lead to him picking up injuries. Later in his career it was more & more his lack (or inability) to play 2 ways.
2) Massive wage demands. Go back and look at his salary from when he returned to MLS with the Union/Salt Lake. His production on the field didn't equal his salary.
3) Attitude. Even when he was given a chance with clubs (Trials/Loans) he could never seem to turn those into actual transfers/stability. He was going well in Turkey back in 2011...but failed to get/accept a contract. In Brazil & Greece I don't think he played more than a couple games.
At some point any self respecting club/league will expect players to actually perform, and that's something Freddy has been unable to do with any consistency at any time in his career.

Actually it would probably be Adu. No one outside of the US/Canada (and Mexico, to a certain extent) knows anything about American football. Very few people outside of those countries could name a single American football player. In fact, there are a lot of people that don't even know what American football is. I live in India and here, for example, it's only the upper class people that are more cosmopolitan that have heard of it. In Argentina, most of the lower class people I spoke to about it hadn't heard of it, either.

A lot of people have heard of Adu though because of the amount of hype surrounding him during his time. You'd be surprised-most Argentine football fans I spoke to about him, for example, had heard of him.
