I have seen brilliant moments from Adu! That is as far as it goes however; never any consistency from him. Adu needs to find any team that will take him, work hard and put in one consistent season. Maybe then he will get some serious looks.

Is Adu a drug addict ? Or Alcoholic ? Maybe both. Something is wrong in his life. He probably needs help.

Sounds like some people in these forums. . .

Mabye Freddy adu is just a product of entering a professional league way too soon. These years then drastically hurt his development. Compound this with his way too quickly rise to fame. He was then sold to benfica at the age of 18. Constantly loaned out. Plus his lack of effort on defense which has still not shown up. The fact that he shows glimpes of talent but often has a tough time putting into a good 90 minutes. I think Freddy Adu is easily explainable and I think people drastically overestimated how good he could be.

I actually think he plays a lot better with the national team then the club team. Problem is its hard to call up a player if they arent doing much for their club compared to other players who are rising in better leagues. Also he does have problems with work ethic some players view soccer as a hobby and not a job. Also he is not good enough for europe. He is one of ussoccers greatest screw ups. I think we were able to learn a lot from that episode. Things such as you probably shouldnt start a 14 year old in a mls game common sense. Said player needs to develop you dont just give him the golden ticket that young and expect him to become the greatest. Thankfully our league has come a long ways and now we have guys like deandre yedlin, and many many other promising young prospects and not just 1 potential savior a la freddy adu.

I'm rooting for Adu to play professionally again. Somewhere. Anywhere. At the same time, I can't say I enjoy his reportedly poor work ethic/attitude on the pitch. Whether or not Adu ever plays again, I can't help but think MLS owes Adu BIG TIME. Not necessarily financially...but offering this kid as much emotional/life skills support as he's willing to accept from now till the end of time. Agree or not, Adu contributed to the development of MLS to where it is today. He took one for MLS. Through Adu, MLS learned a painful lesson about responsible player development. C'mon Freddy. Bring back some magic.

To the Cosmos he should go. Atleast there he'll have one thing in common with Pele.

Love or hate Adu, this is an excellent article by Nick Ames about his move to Jagodina. It really sounds like this could be a great fit for both Jagodina and Freddy.

While its really a human interest article, it does mention that Jagodina plan to use Freddy as a second forward.

Looks like Adu sat the bench on Saturday in a 3-0 loss to Red Star Belgrade. No big Serbian debut yet...

From Twitter:
Freddy Adu update (one or two have asked!): unused sub for Jagodina at Crvena Zvezda yest. Fairly sure he won't be match fit for a while.

The second part of that twitter comment is the important point. Freddy's been out of action since November and even before then he was barely playing (but was at least training). It will be a little while before he's ready. He'll probably be a late sub for a few games before he sees legitimate playing time.
