99% agree but as I always said....... add a creative midfielder and make either jones or bradley a starter. With those two clowns, there is no possession

never going to happen. but you could add a more creative CM and drop the non-donovan winger

jozy-deuce
---LD---
MB-***-JJ

LD drifting wide to either side to create more width
*** = your favorite creative (sacha, torres, even zusi in a central position...)

Hahaha yes I do see that looking back now and I'm not really sure why I did that. I was just excited at the options. I usually count too to make sure I'm not overloading. Oh well. This is why I work in finance?...

But really. If we could get away with it I'd take best XII...

I like richies line-up, but I also would like to see this as the front attacking 4:

------Jozy------
Zusi-----Deuce----lando

I would definitely be ok with Zusi starting insetad of Beasley. I actually might like Zusi more, because he is more comfortable cutting inside and better in possession. This would be one of the more unpredictable lineups we could see under Klinsmannm, which is nice. All across the attacking midfield line you have guys that are comfortbale inside and outside. ALL good in possession. Demspey will be able to roam a lot more than usual which always makes him a dangerous player. I think a lot of you guys will be surprised how good Bradley and Jones can possess the ball with true wide midfield players. And for everybody so hellbent on Johnson and Dolo providing width for us, this kind of lineup will allow it.

I seriously doubt Chandler will be healthy in time for the qualifiers.

all signs point to zusi and donovan wide. zusi has started 5 of last 6 qualifiers - one exception being the disaster in honduras.

donovan is obvious candidate to replace revolving door opposite zusi - torres, EJ, gomez...

question will then be if that line-up will consistently create offense. people need to acknowledge that, with a bradley/jones CM combo, it is essentially a reprisal of BB's empty bucket, only with better players:

- jones for clark
- zusi replacing dempsey wide
- dempsey replacing findley up top, only in a slightly withdrawn forward position

the personnel is better, but my guess is that we will see the same lack of build-up play that we saw throughout BB years and through JKs reign so far.

if it works, great. if not, i can only assume kljestan will get his first opportunity since starting GC QF and SF,,,

I hear ya. But right now Chandler is included until known that he won't be with the team.

Reports are saying Lando is being snubbed, saw it coming. He hasn't torn it up since he's been back, obviously Klinsy has problems with him.

Torn it up? Thats subjective. I've watched Landon since he's come back. He started off slow but has basically come back to life. You're going to tell me you'd rather Herc or EJ on the wing than Landon?

This is a big f'n joke.

I thought Landon has looked pretty good aside from PK taking. He beat players out wide and made some sick passes (two of which were classy passes that set up Villarreal getting fouled in the box)

Here are some facts/observations on the US team so far this year.

The US team has played 4 games in 2013 and has 2 goals.

In the 3 World Cup qualifiers in 2013, the US team has 3 shots on goal.

Jozy Altidore, the team's best forward who scored 31 times this year, struggles to get involved in the attack almost entirely because of a lack of support.

The US team struggles on the wings and often plays players out of position there: Danny Williams, Herc Gomez, Eddie Johnson, and even Graham Zusi who is better centrally in the midfield.

Donovan can play out wide with ease and can also pinch in and play forward or a #10. He has played each role for LA.

Landon Donovan is closing in on becoming the first ever player in the history of soccer (not American soccer, but world soccer) to have 150 caps, 50 goals, 50 assists. He is not old at 31 and is generally a very fit athlete. He is only 5 months removed from shining at the MLS Cup.

It would be one thing if the US team ripped it up when he was absent, but the team didn't. This team is not making progress coming together offensively. If I am wrong on this, please tell me how.

Did Donovan take a break? Yes. But I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he had serious issues he was dealing with. Why am I willing to give him the benefit of the doubt? How could you not for a guy who has been front and center for the team's best ever accomplishments?

Dononvan is clearly not over the hill and it will be an absolute nightmare for Klinsmann if Donovan goes on a role for LA while the USMNT is in session in May/June.

wow Jurgen isnt impressing anyone with this idiotic move. Anyone with a Brain would see the team still needs Landon Donovan in that locker room not only his leadership but creativity something the team is freaking lacking ...

if this is true, i really dont see how JK continues to EXCLUSIVELY play his 4-4-2 (4-2-3-1, whatever) with only ONE good (PSEUDO) wing option (zusi)

at this point ill be surprised if qualification for brazil does not look pretty dicey after the next couple of WCQ games

Glad Dono has not been called. He is not setting MLS on fire (one score and one assist) in a few games. Even missed a PK - which is supposed to be his forte. I like Dono and he has been great for the USMNT for a long time. This is different. There is a personal beef between LD and JK. No doubt. This is not a pure soccer decision. But I see JK's angle. I personally work for a company as a team lead. If I take a 3 months sabbatical for any reason, my job will not be here when I come back.

I hear the LD supporters (including several of the writers for YA) - there are not too many LD's in our pool. Maybe true - maybe not - LD is not the same player that he was a few WC cycles ago. He is slower and has little defense/tracking left. He was great for Bob Bradley's counter attack - but the system has changed.

JK should call some other younger players and give them a chance - Mix, Corona, Bedoya or a proven veteran like DMB.

Leave LD for the Gold Cup.
