@2tone - Both Gatt & Gyau are facing an uphill battle to get back into the USMNT picture. There has been a lot of attacking talent emerging over the past couple months...be it players returning from injury (Jozy, Johannsson, & Boyd) or young players breaking into their clubs first teams (Pulisic, Gooch, Green, & Arriola). Players like Gyau & Gatt are going to have to show that they can remain healthy and add something that the others can't.

I think it's obvious the team could use a right winger, and if Pulisic is left, none of those guys you just mentioned @dave really can play out on the right. So if either of those two can come back there is a spot open. The only player I really see getting that chance ahead of those two is of my favorites, Paul Arriola. But he's not written in stone at RM by any means. Zardes' injury has opened the door just as previous injuries halted Gatt and Gyau's progress. Arriola gets first shot but there is plenty of room for Gatt to get healthy and make an appearance. I could potentially see him getting a call for the October friendlies as a bench player to let Jürgen check on him first hand.

They both need to show they can stay healthy. If that hurdle is passed, then they do offer something different: extreme speed. Much more so than the other attacking mids/wingers.

Pulisic, Gooch, & Arriola are able to play out on the right. Additionally if we find a LB that was up to the task we could shift Fabian into either wide mid positions. BTW Gyau was predominately a Left mid/forward when healthy. Anyway you cut it Gyau & Gatt will have to beat out some stiff competition.

Nobody is a bigger proponent of Fabian in midfield than I am. But it seems he's going to play LB through the cycle. As for Gooch, I suppose he could be a winger but until he actually plays and looks good and is in sync with USA teammates, he's just as behind as the others are. I can't wait to see who is called in for the "experimental friendlies".

I think it will all come to a head next summer for the Gold Cup. I could see many players being called up for that who are fringe players/ getting back healthy.

I see that tournament as a perfect tournament to blood young players who need tournament experience.

2tone I'd expect that by next summers Gold Cup we'll see a large portion of the squad transition completed. By this time next summer players who have been recovering from injuries (Johannsson, Boyd, Gatt, Gyau) along with the young performers (Gooch, Pulisic, Green, Rubin, etc....) will have been tested with the Sr. team. I see the Gold Cup as being used to solidify team chemistry around the 25 players that will be short listed towards the 2018 WC. There will always be a surprise or two that crop up just before the WC, but I truly believe that 18 or more positions will be locked in after the GC.

I think if Gatt remains healthy the rest of the year he's an automatic jan camp guy. Hopefully he then transfers to MLS and works his way back into the fold (competing with guys like Zardes, Agudelo, Zusi for that backup wing spot).

According to reports from the game when he came in he drew a red card by blowing by the defense and was creating havoc for the 20-25 minutes he was there.

Well Gatt's speed is extreme. It's unusual and difficult for defenders to learn to defend (tactically how to address). Good for international play.

Here is some good news on Josh, hope he can make a good impression and get signed or at least have his trial extended.

Looks like GATT has been acquired by Minnesotta. Hell of a pick up.

Bit risky for a new team to get someone who is highly injury prone. They are trying to build a stable foundation....

I am a big fan of Gatt, but just not for a new team that just came into existence. Creating a stable foundation is paramount for a new team.

I disagree. This is a perfect signing for an expansion club. Even if he doesnt play many games due to injury, he's a "name" true soccer fans know. He'll be one of the guys (along with Ibarra) they can put on the cover of their programs, have bobblehead nights for, do the weekly radio talk show.

I bet he becomes their number one jersey seller if this deal goes through (as of last night nothing official, still just a trial(
