Looks like AZ will pulling the same crap again this summer; refusing to rlease Altidore until 4 days on June 3(FIFA mandated date of release) prior to the first Qualiffier on June 7th.

Looks like EJ and Boyd will be getting the reps at striker against Belgium and Germany. Wouldn't be surprised to see Agudelo called in or McInerney for the May camp

I wouldn't expect Altidore to be starting that first qualifier against Jamaica either.

There was an article on Goal.com where they were talking about Carlos Vela. It mentions the Mexican national team coach and director of national teams were in Spain late last week trying to negotiate the early release of four Mexican national team players prior to their May 31 friendly.

Also, Mix Diskerud alluded to something similar when asked by Goal.com about playing in the friendlies or Gold Cup. Here is the quote:

"I love to compete. Besides that, I will always consider it a great honor to be asked to represent my country," Diskerud explained. "But I belong to a very dedicated club as well, and the interests to both the club and myself always have factored in the contracts I have voluntarily entered into."

So the clubs have a lot of of say as to what their players will do as they are the club's investment. That is the key point, Jozy is AZ'S future money maker when they sell him to another team. They want to make sure he does not get hurt and ruin any chance they have of selling him this summer.

Speed Elf, I think that you're spot on with your comment about AZ not wanting him to get injured.

As a fan I have less tolerance for a club holding a player back in early June than I do when the club is chasing critical points during the season. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth but it is within their rights to do it.

If Jozy doesn't play, I think Gomez is likely to get his minutes up top ahead of EJ or Boyd but hopefully we go to a two forward formation as I don't like the idea of Gomez being the lone forward.

I should note, that I also don't like the idea of Altidore being the lone forward.

this is pretty ridiculous. will he be in camp, just not training? hard to understand how they would refuse to even allow him to be in camp

Its all about money. AZ "leaks" this information. Then USSF calls them to talk about it. AZ tells them they are planning on selling him for X amount of pounds. USSF pays some kind of insurance to protect that much money against injury. Everyone is happy. Such is lif in the business side of sports.

However if they cant agree Id much prefer Boyd up top to Gomez. They are friendlies. We know what Gomez can do. Why not start Boyd to see how he plays with Dempsey, Bradley, Jones, et all as opposed to starting Herc and bringing in Boyd when you empty the bench. That would make the most sense to me

I completely understand what AZ is doing.. I'd be doing the same thing. Jozy potentially can make the club a ridiculous amount of money. Honestly I'm fine with it because I'm high on Boyd and want him to get legit minutes that he deserves to get.

Yea I want to see Boyd bring the thunder. Give him his shot. Besides the kick bleeds RW&B and I just love that... His face in the Azteca... Pure animal joy after that back heel. And he has a big ass USA tattoo now. He's legit in his passion through and through, and I love it.

I also understand what AZ is doing and I'd do the same thing too if I were them.

AZ doesn't care about the USMNT and nor should they. They have to do what's in their interest and right now with Jozy set to give them a huge payday, they don't want him exposed to needless risk in playing for the USMNT when it's not mandated.

It sucks for the USMNT, but AZ is holding all the cards and is doing what's right for them.

Everyone needs to expect this when players move to clubs that rely on selling players to stay alive financially.

because a player with 30 goals and a torn acl doesn't go for as much as a player with 30 goals and injury free.
