I could see Holden replacing JJ before MB, but both are stretches. There is still a decent amount of time in between now and the qualifiers, maybe Holden can show us something new, maybe not. No point in speculating any further until we see him on the pitch in international play.

Here are the two reasons why I think Klinsmann came out and said Holden will be in the May/June camp:

1. He wants to properly evaluate Holden before the Gold Cup.

2. He really is not sold on the squad depth of Cm's that have been called in i.e. Kljestan, Beckerman, Williams, Edu, and Torres. This serves notice to those players and to the starters i.e. Bradley and Jones. Competition is always good, and no one is more competitive than Holden aside from Bradley.

I am not sure why everyone is assuming he will play at CM....He has played an outside mid for the Nats several times before. No he is not an out and out winger but he has the ability to greatly improve our non existent wide play.

so you think stuart holden's 8 appearances in championship this season and invitation to train with USMNT this summer really changes the complexion of the squad, huh?

are you suggesting you think holden has demonstrated he should be starting WCQs in june?

If we play a Jones-MB-Holden midfield, even with Holden as RM, it will not succeed IMO. We need a Donovan, Beasley, Zusi like players in there. Attackers.

Playing winger in the MLS and at the highest levels is a lot different. Different tasks are required of the player. All of his club team coaches have decided that at this level, his skillset and style best fits the CM position. I definitely agree. We are desperately short of wingers but I don't think he's the answer. If he shows well for the national team I could see him jumping above Beckerman, Edu, and Williams in the depth chart, which could mean a call-up in 2014. I don't see him starting over Bradley or Jones though. Or Torres (although I know most people won't agree with me on that one).

Yep, I would take a 80 percent out of form Holden over an in form Kljestan anyday.

But, Holden has already statd that he is 100 percent healthy and about 90 percent in form. So it's not looking good for Kljestan, Edu, or Torres in the May/June camp.

bizarre that people are going out of there way on a stuart holden thread to disparage sacha kljestan - who hardly even plays for USMNT

im sure sacha is as happy as anyone as he and holden are good friends.

if participating over summer can propel holden towards a good club situation in the fall and a return towards peak level that will certainly be a boost for USMNT

but again, the unprovoked digs at kljestan seem uncalled for and petty

but its a free forum - have at it!!! (if you must)

It makes sense to bring Holden into camp; he has had the last 1 1/2 years off. Holden was playing at a high level before the injury. JK wants to evaluate if Holden still has that capacity or not. From the little we have seen of him since his return it looks like he still has that potential. The more touches he can get the better for everyone. It would be nice to have Holden as an option when the fall qualifiers roll around. I expect we shall see him on the gold cup roster this summer.

I like that they've already announced Holden's call up. I wish that they would do more of this, at least the players that will be with the team for both May/June and the Gold Cup.

May 29 seems like a long way away.

Bolton down 2-0,

The 2 teams that can catch them are currently tied 1-1 with eachother. A draw with these 2 teams puts Nottingham Forest 1 Point ahead of Bolton. A win for Nottingham puts them well ahead of Bolton. A win for Leicester puts them 1 point ahead of Bolton.

Bolton have to win this game, or come back and draw and hope the other game holds.

Holden on the bench..

Bolton 2 injury time goals right before half to tie it up, 2-2 now.

A win puts them into the playoff for promotion. Leicester currently tied on points with Bolton, but Bolton are well behind on GD with them.

So now.. If Bolton TIE, they need Nottingham Forest to come back and tie Leicester City.

If Bolton LOSE, they are out no matter what.

If Bolton WIN, they are through unless Nottingham comes back and absolutely crushes Leicester and passes Bolton in GD. Extremely unlikely at this point. So a win, we will just say brings them to the playoff spot.
