it looks like Germany will play somewhat of a B squad against us since there are 12 players participating in the champions league final (14 if you include Kroos and Badstuber who are out for the rest of the season with injuries) on May 25th. They have a friendly on May 29 against Ecuador in Florida so I highly doubt the players playing in the ucl final will called. Bayern also has the DFB Pokal on June 1 so those players definitely wont play. The dortmund players could be called in at a later date but still highly unlikely.

Even with all the absences I still think Germany will still have a superior team to the U.S. event if the U.S. plays its best 11. what does everyone think

Germany with a D squad will compete against our best ... I remember Brazil with a sub20 team beating us 4-1.

I have tickets to the game so I will let you know lol. Germany will be tough if they used their 23U squad. This is just what JK is hoping for though. Play a younger team, if he wins the people will say hey he just beat Germany...they will totally dismiss the fact that 14 A squad players may possibly be watching the game from home.

I'm not so sure this is advantageous for Klinsi. If he beats a severely understrenghted GER team then those who overlook that are not people who matter. Certainly the USA players will know the difference so if they win they will take it with a grain of salt. If they lose though, they will need to do more soul searching. Seems like this scenario is worse than if the full GER side showed up and posted a 2 or 3 goal victory.
Lets not forget that even if the Germans brought their best side and we won, the excuses would be that the players didn't want to come to the USA and they were planning vacations after a long season etc....

I cannot argue with you there friend. As much as I heard the "we beat Mexico in Azteca, we beat Italy in Italy, and so on they never quite understood that either A. we played horrible and squeaked by..or B. they did not suit up a full strength roster.

Yeah I'll be at the game too.. after realizing that literally half of Germeny's team will be in the UCL Final i was upset I won't get to see them all play. But you're right either way the game will be scrutinized due to the C or D squad Germany will bring. But at least Germany respects us enough to travel to the USA to play a friendly..

I think a lot of you guys look far too deep into these friendly games. Winning or losing is not going to effect them that much. Its going to get them some live touches on the ball prior to the all important WCQs, and thats all that matters with these games.

If I knew Germany's full squad was coming, I would absolutely make the trip down. Its an exhibition people, just enjoy it.

So far, the only player I'm hearing of any reputation for the German side (that can actually make the game) is Mertesacker. Anyone know of anyone else? I'm sure there are great players out there, just having a hard time thinking of anyone at the moment.

Agree with richie - it's a friendly. Given the added fact that Low is bringing an understrength squad, it's general importance is mitigated even further. Should be fun still - any guesses on some potential new faces? Maybe see some of the Bundesliga kids (i.e. Morales, Gyau) on the roster?

Off the top of my head Podolski, Khedira, Ozil, Klose should be available, could be mistaken though. Those four could probably beat our best 11.

Should be a good game, but WC qualifying is more important. This friendly means nothing in the grand scheme of things. just more money in USSF's wallet and a chance for Klinsmann to evaluate his players prior to WC qualifying.

Win or lose means nothing. How you play collectively and individually prior to WC qualifying is more important.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Would be perfect too. People say he's not good enough/ready to play for us but Germany thinks he is.

I think it's a matter of perception. It's obvious that Germany isn't bringing their A-game here and it's up to the US to determine what kind of squad they bring. If both teams bring B to C squads, then the allure of a call-up to either doesn't say much more than maybe a proving ground or platform for bigger things down the road. Should the US bring a strong squad and include him on it, perhaps we send a stronger message of the desire to make a long-term investment in him.

All that being said, JAB will do what he wants. Honestly, I'd give the edge to Germany but I really hope that's not the case.

Im pretty sure every single one of Germany's B and C squad would at a minimum make our 18 man gameday roster, most would start.

Yeah. There are so many good German players right now. They're much deeper than any other national team, including France and possibly Spain. Great youth system, great league, and a consistent style of play. We could definitely take a page or two from their book, which is what Klinsmann is trying to do. It'll be generations though before (if) we get to that level.
