Desevio Payne is doing well at Groningen's youth teams and is progressing nicely.

Here is his story at YA

Payne embraces American roots

Great article. Hopefully we can steal him away from Holland. Any time Dutch is interested in a player hes got to be near the top of our pool

It's probably too late for the current U20 team. The right back spot belongs to Yedlin now

He should be looked at for the start of the 2015 cycle

If he is good enough then yes he should be considered for the next cycle of U-20's. But there will be competition at RB in the next cycle i.e. Shaq Moore, Travis Wannemuehler and now Payne.

Thats cool he prefers repping the US though instead of Holland.

He seemed to just say that it would be an honor to play for the US, not that he really prefers it...

He'd play for the USA if asked.

His father stated that his son would prefer to play for the US.

Ashton Payne regarding his son " he has a strong USA connection, and that is pretty much his preference."

The US seems to be building up a nice little crop of young RB's!

The Dutch picked up on the article. They talk about it on Groningen's official site

Yedlin, Henley, Sorto, Moore, Payne

Yedlin has shown phenmominal promise in his rookie MLS season. Very exciting prospect. He is almost certain to be the starting RB at the U20 World Cup this summer.

Henley would require a one-time switch and I do think it's winnable for the USA (but is he better than Yedlin?). He's probably one for the next Olympics since he's injured for this U20 World Cup.

Sorto is a talented young player and wants to play for the USA but my hunch is that he will switch to El Salvador if he falls out of favor with the US program.

Moore is obviously one of the few bright spots on the US U17 team. He does want to go abroad at an early age. He's still the youngest of the bunch and could be on the 2015 US U20 team. Born in the USA, his dad played for T&T's national team

Payne is also talented but very young. It will be interesting to see how he progresses at Groningen. He's one for the 2015 US U20 team.

Really with so many youngsters emerging at RB; one has to wonder if USSF doesn't even try to go after Henley now. I have a hunch Henley will stay with Wales.

I mean here are the RB options when Dolo calls it quits after the 2014 WC:

Chandler- 22
Yedlin- 19
Myers- 25
Beltran- 25
Beitashour- 26
Zach Lloyd- 25

Chandler and Yedlin are probably your locks for the 2018 WC cycle with Myers, Beltran, Beitashour, and Lloyd all in the mix.

Henley still has to file a one-time switch, and even then he isn't gauranteed a spot in the US national team program. If I was him I would stay with Wales.

You have to think Chandler and Yedlin will be National team players for the next 10 to 13 years. I know injuries may happen.

All I am saying is that Henley may reconsider things now that the US looks pretty damn solid at RB. Where as Wales could probably bump him into their full national team in the next few years.

No, they should still go after Henley. Playing in the EPL at age 17 is VERY special.

But he isn't playing in the EPL, and he hasn't been a regular first team player in the Championship.

You are basing it off of like 3 appearances. He wasn't a regualr first team player when Blackburn were in the EPL.

It's just not a valid argument.

The guy has talent, no one is denyng that. But there are also talented players in MLS who don't have to file a one-time switch.

From Henley's point of view staying with Wales looks pretty good. Not saying he won't make the one-time switch, but I don't think there will be much hand wringing if he doesn't file a one-time switch. RB is not a dier situation for the USMNT.

Still going after Henley makes sense although nothing is ever promised when recruiting , just a chance to compete.

Henley is good. He did mostly play in the EPL because a thin & cash-strapped Blackburn was hit with injuries. Still, he got a 5 year contract and played well. He's still raw and gets injured very frequently.

I like the idea of Yedlin & Henley pushing each other
