I was finally catching up on the news and found this http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/29/sports/socc... as well. Pretty much the same thing your article said.

I think this opens the door for a few more talented young DPs at the new NYC club. With buckets of money thrown at him, who's to say that a young Neymar-type player (South American, talented) doesn't sign with the NYCFC to up his exposure and showcase his talents for a manager who actually owns a team in the BPL. At that point MLS is still signing superstars before their prime, but I feel like fans will be excited to see some young rising talent to go along with the old talent.

Unfortunately as a DC United fan, this spells disaster for our chances of winning another cup or supporters shield post 2016. The new ownership group at DC can't compete with that much money.

It would be sweet for the MLS if NYCFC got an agreement with man city. Imagine they have a guy coming back from injury, they can loan him to NYC into a DP spot for a month or so. They could do the same with some young guys Would be great exposure for the MLS

Im sorry but 3 possible MLS teams in New York City is not going to work! The Cosmos owners better be smart, you think they want to be stuck in the NASL forever? Well that might just happen if this New York City FC team happens.

I prefer the cosmos

Damn, purchased 21 days ago? I wish i would have jumped the gun and bought that domain before they did. I've already purchased some "hypothetical expansion team" domains.

@Blaise

From the above linked article, I bet this might interest you. City has already reached out to the urban community...

"A New York franchise would also create the chance to develop young players for City and to establish the deposed champions as New York's Premier League team. City's presence there has grown rapidly since a successful summer tour in 2010, when Cook met MLS commissioner Don Garber, who urged him to consider an MLS franchise. City have run football schools in New York ever since, and have put 200,000 children through their City Soccer programme run by Paul Jeffries, with the 500,000 AstroTurf pitch on the roof of a school in Spanish Harlem also part of this effort."

@ richieJkulesaNY

I read it, good post.

So heres what I would do. Im not a fan of the NYC FC name. Too many letters. Let them get the deal done, but Im praying they build a stadium that is 30,000 seats or more.

Next MLS needs to find an owner to purchase the Red Bulls. Nobody likes the RB name and it being linked to NY. You have to make it appeal to the New Jersey folks. If you cant get the New Jersey folks interested then I would:

*Find a billionaire Owner
* Build around RB arena and make it one big academy
* Rebrand to NY Cosmos and find another stadium location in NY

I believe MLS has also trademarked "Empire City Football Club"....once RB sells in the next decade or so I believe RB will become ECFC. No NY ECFC or NJ ECFC...just ECFC.

regarding NYCFC's stadium it will be 25,000 seats with the capability of 35k expansion.

I went on MLS soccer yesterday and read about the guy who created 54 team concepts with jerseys and names

I was impressed what he said "Space City FC" for Houston. Thats pretty sick to have those style of names

Empire City FC is sick but I just love the NY Cosmos brand too much
