He is working out again, at least running. I wonder how he fits in after the injury?

Probably won't fit in. He will be with the reserve team.

I get that...would suspect a loan in late January to a League 1 team. But after recovery does he still fit the future of this team?

I guess it depends on which teams future you're eluding too. I think Zelalem if pretty much done at Arsenal. With the midfield players currently on Arsenal's 1st team and the youth they have coming up through their youth ranks I think Zelalem has lost his window of opportunity due to his injury.
If he's if fully cleared to play by the January window I'd expect him to be sent out on loan to a lower level league (Scottish, French, Dutch, or Belgium). He'll need to prove he can stay healthy and get minutes if he hopes to get a transfer to somewhere next summer.

As for the possibility of making the USMNT, it'll depend on how his loan/transfers work out. That being said his injury has put him behind a number of promising players who are currently getting minutes with good clubs. He's behind McKennie, Gonzalez, Adams, Acosta, Scott, & probably Parks right now and will have to climb the depth chart through performances at the club level before he'll get a shot with the National Team.
Can he do it....yes. But unlike in the past there are too many quality prospects coming through at the CM position to think anyone's position is a given.

He definetly has to earn it. But he was playing as a 10 for the U20's when he got hurt. Not sure if we have a solid 10, if he can get healthy and find a place to play I think he could find his way back into the discussion.

In the posted video he looks bigger than I remember. Perhaps he is growing into his body.

Even at the #10 he's going to be in some serious competition:
Pulisic - could be our 10 or a winger, depending on the formation.
Scott - Has been making the bench for Chelsea...I expect him to go on loan in January.
Parks - Can be deployed as a 10, 8, or even a 6.
Saief - Can play wide or centrally as an attacking midfielder
Gooch - has played as an 8, a winger, and a forward. I could see him as a backup 10.

All these guys are currently healthy, and fighting form 1st team minutes. Zelalem is just coming back from a knee injury and is likely still months away from getting back to playing.

I hear you on Zelelam. But Gooch is becoming a lost cause
He cannot crack the starting lineup of the last place team in the championship.

I wonder if Scott is going to have a CCV wasted year due to the lack of midfield depth at Chelsea.

I am a little lost as to why Gooch can't get minutes. But as they say he may have to find greener pastures.

I doubt Scott will have a wasted season like CCV...he has been passed on the depth chart so it is unlikely he will feature for Chelsea this season...best/only shot would seem to be the Cup match on the 20th. Chelsea could also recall other midfielders from their loans if they have a crisis (Ruben Loftus-Cheek comes to mind).

In a way that is good because it makes a loan that much easier come January. He has played a few PL2 matches recently and hopefully will play in the Checkatrade Cup match tomorrow. Hopefully his loan comes early in January.

The difference is Zelalem lost time, and potentially may have lost skill and capabilities due to the tear. Hopefully not, but there hasn't been a roughing in on his fitness (both skill and physical) to see where he is.

Before he got hurt for our team he looked like a player who probably still had the same skill set, but less confidence in it. Yes, part of that may have been due to Ramos.
